Assassination missions with built-in waiting time now?

Just took on a few assassination missions. Seems the mission target is now no longer found by honking the scanner and receiving a "target body" message, but one must find them flying about in the system and pull them over, or wait for them to do so.

Well that's perfectly ok so far, but does it make any sense that the mission target's ETA is always about half an hour in the future? I mean, methinks there was a statement from FD somewhere like "we don't want to waste your time". Great, so what is this waiting time supposed to be for (the targets never seem to show up early)?

Please say this is a bug and not another intended time sink!

I tried one of these missions once. But the wait in the target system really irritated me.
I have looked several times since, at these missions.
But they are still a pointless time sink so I just don't do them.
Glad it's not just me, I was beginning to think I was weird.

Up to now, I used to take on these missions and be right off to blow up the bad guy. There never was any waiting involved except for maybe a minute or two before the meeting USS would spawn.

Glad it's not just me too :)

Sometimes the target will spawn in SC, for you to Interdict, and most times you get a location after a honk. If you find them in SC, without an interdictor, you can follow them and drop into their Low Wake. Ultimately you can wait for them to disappear, honk, and get a location.

I had an Assassination mission spawn a 4x Attacker wrinkle. The target was also in SC. I found it best to take out each extra spawn before chasing down the target for credits, and I am at great risk taking on two large, high ranked ships, with my Bi-Weave set up. In the end, when the target was not in SC I honked, and got a location.

After today's update, I did not have opportunity to do a significant number of missions yet (because, this boring thing they call "real life", you know :) )
I did like 4 or 5, with another 5 in my transactions tab right now. Every single one of them was 25-30 minutes in the future - a behaviour I've seen for the first time, although assassinations were my main business after the first 3.something update (lower risk than RES or CZ to hit someone you shouldn't).

Some variety in how you find the victim would not hurt at all, but that waiting time is annoying.

You dont need to wait for the time window, you can just honk and go to the target body. You just cant be late.

If they spawn in super cruse you can just drop into the nav beacon and they will eather follow you or be waiting at the target body in a uss when you leave the nav.

Simply honking no longer gives a mission destination...now have to fly around randomly hoping to bump into the target. Used to be ye went in system, honked and ye get a mission marker and that was that...now it takes three times longer that it did before...ye I see what they did there, not impressed ^

Instead of an edit...no nav beacon didnt work either and I tried it multiple times. Got interdicted after almost an hour just milling around...sounds about right the white knights who wanted more time sinks will be happy ^

Honk - Nothing
Reboot - Nothing
Scan Nav Beacon - Nothing

Preparing my bug report - Data mysteriously appears, at least 30 seconds since I did anything to trigger it.

You can’t “Honk” anymore or scan NavBeacon it is broken

Hey guys,

it's good to see it was not just me. I'd like to add the observation that mission targets never appear in whatever fashion unless the time window is reached - which was, on each mission I took yesterday, about half an hour to go. There was no use in flying to the target system earlier. This can't be intended behaviour (well at least I hope so ;) )

EDIT:
Having read the bug report thread, I gave it a try now and scanning the Nav Beacon really seems to do the trick.

Mission taken: 20:46
Time window: 21:10 - 22:40 (!)
Arrived at system 20:48 > honked the ADS, nothing.
Scanned Nav Beacon: 20:50 > message arrives
Arrived at target body 20:53
Mission USS spawns 20:54 > 16 minutes before time window opens
Baddie FdL blown up: 20:55 :D

So this may or may not be intended, and I would not be too enthusiastic about the ADS being useless, but as long as these missions remain viable let's be happy, worse things have happened before :)

ONE MORE EDIT:
Another run, this time the mission is taken on within the time frame.
Arrive @ target system, honk, nope. Scan nav beacon, message arrives. While I read it, the mission target opens fire on me :D

When you scan the nav beacon...be sure to wait around for a minute or two (ideally with pips in sys & hp's deployed) while monitoring your incoming comms; if you hear a warp-in sound & see a threatening msg...one of your targets is in your instance.

Tonight, I saved myself a 130kls journey out to the target body with one pirate lord in a Corvette, simply by waiting! Bear in mind this isn't always the case & you might still have to make an arduous trek...so my top tip in this scenario is to deploy Netflix!

Last night I collected 5 Elite assassination missions to go to Maia which is a bit of a gamble as some of the system planets are 240k LS out but I thought why not never collected so many for one system before.
So off I fly to Maia did the honk and sure enough 2 missions where close and 3 over 200,000ls away but as I started to fly to the first mission I was interdicted by one of the mission targets and it was one of the 200.000ls out targets so I thought that's handy but what happened next was new to me as the other 2 targets from 200,000ls out also jump in so I had all 3 mission targets in one instance and they where all angry corvettes.
My FDL did manage to come out on top and after a quick repair at Obsidian I then flew to the close by missions.
Because of the way it played out I was able to finish all 5 Assassination missions in about 20 minutes so quite a profitable excursion.
However once back at Arcs no more Maia assassinations appeared even after a few board hops. Oh well it was fun while it lasted.
But if I ever see multiples of assassination missions for the same system appear again I will definitely take them all in the hope of them all ganging up on me together again.

I just had one of these assassination missions that don't spawn a USS. Personally, I think this is a terrible change to the game, as the narrow window of opportunity is very subject to RL demands. If I take a mission, I don't want to have to wait 45 minutes before I can attempt it, especially if there is only 90 minutes allowed to do so in the game once it becomes possible.
