Assassination missions

So....I have finally bought the Asp which I have been after since realease (don't get much time to play with kids n stuff). She isn't kittted out quite as I would like but have enough for insurance a couple of times. I am wanting to do some assassination missions but remember them always being elite anacondas.

Here's my question...has this changed? Are there easier assassinations for less reward or is it a case of stop being a wuss and go and do one?

Thanks

My experience of assassination missions since the start of Horizons is that they have become much easier, although for less reward. They have tended to be against Adders or Vipers and as I'm flying a fully equipped Conda they are no problem but you should be able to take them with an Asp. Although you do need an FSD Interdictor.

Assassinations (along with smuggling, SSS, CZs) are my bread & butter and there is a much better balance now. I use a DBS and Courier and I haven't failed one in 1.5 yet..although I came very close with a Python and wing of Vultures, barely escaping with 34% hull after the Python went big-bada-boom. However they are not set at the stupidly high difficulty where you need a FDL or FAS, so that is a good thing! Previously only the 'celebrity', 'religious leader' and 'prisoner' were viable in a less powerful ship.

The only bone of contention is, it is sometimes impossible to identify whether the mission is a clean or wanted target..ie you only find out when you acquire the target; whereas before, with a little experience the type of target shown on the mission details gave you that information.

Firstly bazza926, link your current ASP fit. Use THIS WEBSITE to make the fitting and create a link.

Secondly, should your fit suffice, you shouldn't have any problem doing assassination missions. Typically, I find its best, when doing combat missions in general, to take both assassination missions as well as missions that ask you to kill x number of pirates. The income can be comparable to farming RES, yet is usually much easier. Most of what you will encounter will range from eagles to pythons, and tend to air on the smaller sized ships.

As Lexraider mentioned, you will need an FSD Interdictor, particularly for assassination missions. For the kill pirate missions you can just drop into unidentified signal sources and kill wanted ships. Make sure you have a kill-warrant scanner as well so you can maximize your bounties as well as getting mission payout.

I've tried a few assassination missions in the current version, and they do seem a lot more varied. I had one that I couldn't handle with my Imperial Courier - Anaconda with a Vulture escort - but the others were lone targets in smaller ships, easy to take out with any reasonably-equipped craft.

Actually I've done assassinations without an interdictor, you can just follow the guy until he drops out of sc - you might need to wait 10 or 15 minutes but he will eventually

I always end up fighting a Python or Confa with Vulture escorts. Not easy at all, I tend to shoot out the power plant on the escort to buy some breathing space, kill the mark and then leave.

This has ruined them for me sadly. I'm not in the habit of breaking the law since I reformed and became a bounty hunter.

I used to feel this way but changed my mind. There's nothing saying bounty hunters just be lawful and it's way more fun playing the hitman who has no moral code.

I'll happily take any contract these days. Although I won't take them if they're in a system I spend a lot of time in (if you get them in such a system, the target will be elsewhere, usually in a system that politically opposes it).

there are all sorts of assassination missions... I often pick up kill X number of traders / civilians / Pirates and throw in with them some assasinate celebrity, assasinate fugitive, assasinate corporate leader etc... Not all of them are now elite ranked and some scale to your rank and some are low ranked... all good missions to take if it's in the one area :) A true assassin never worries about bounties for murder ;)

avoid the killing ground missions if you dont want to have to kill security forces, as its a two part task. otherwise stack them and hand the first part in all at the same time so it only takes a couple of kills to finish multiple missions.

the second part also dosnt seem to have a time limit so its possible to go mental stacking them up and only having to kill a couple of ships to finish them up
