Assassination Missions

Ok i'm sure everyone has to be tired of this by now but I can't find out how the ETA works in this game.

I took a mission few hrs ago and it said the ETA was 4:15-7:45. Now I am basing this ETA on the clock in the upper right hand corner. At 1:10 I get a message saying that I missed my window to do this mission. So is the ETA hrs/mins/or time of day that I need to be there? Any kind of clarification on this will help a lot.

Yes, all mission timers are based on the time in the clock in the HUD, which is game time (UTC).

That said, with assassination missions, although they give a window of opportunity, once you accept the mission, you can fly directly to the system where the target will be, scan the nav beacon (or honk with a discovery scanner), and the mission target will spawn in a mission specific USS around the target body that you get when scanning as a mission update. No need to wait for the start time.

The target will also appear in supercruise in the system during the window of opportunity.

To clarify, the ETA is between what UTC time the target will show up (time of day, UTC time which is shown by in-game clock). If the game clock (UTC time) reads 3:30 and the eta window is given as 4:15-7:45 that means you have 45 minutes to get in position and then 3 and a half hours to find the target (4:15 - 3:30 = 45 minutes and 7:45 - 4:15 = 3 hours 3 min). Please note that the target ETA is different than the time remaining for the mission. The time remaining for the mission is a count down clock, so if it says 23 hours remaining you have 23 hours of real time remaining to complete the mission, not that the mission ends at 11 pm on a am/pm clock (as opposed to 24 hr time in which case 11 am is 11 hundred and 11 pm is 23 hundred)

That's not quite correct (if I have understood you right). You must complete the assassination before the end of the window of opportunity or the mission will fail. The 23 hours to complete the mission is how long you have after destroying the target to hand in the mission and claim the reward.

So its similar to the planet scanning missions?

Just go to the system, Honk and then follow the update from there?

Yes, that's correct. As soon as you accept the mission, regardless of the start of the window of opportunity you can go to the system, honk or scan and then go and assassinate the target that will spawn in a mission specific USS.

As said above though, you must complete the assassination before the end time in the window of opportunity. (This is not usually an issue as the target USS will spawn within 5 or 10 minutes of you getting to the specified location.)

That's how I understand it too. I've been caught out missing the window of opportunity and also by not claiming the reward in time.
