Assassinations are a tad but tougher!

A few days ago I accepted an assassination mission....found the guy in a python along with his Vulture sidekick. I eventually abandoned the mission. Barely escaped after about 45 minutes running/recharging........last night I had the same situation. This time I decide to take out the Vulture first. He was clean so now I am wanted and still have the Python to take care of. No problem......stated recharging my shield and here comes the cops with guns blazing. The only thing I could do was run......Went into SC and found the target again......he had another Vulture with him even though I took out his original wingman.....Was going to just abandon again but got interdicted and this time it was just the Python mission target by himself. I was able to take him out...I was in a Vulture.....

So a happy ending had by all, even the vulture, however, I'm guessing you're saying the whole thing was too hard? What combat level did the mission require?

I don't recall the level but it paid about $350k........what caught me off guard was the target immediately had another wingman after I took out the first one.

I recommend to just ignore the combat rank requirement. Yes, the target of a Novice-required hit is usually ranked Novice. That doesn't apply to target's wingmen though. Not once had I have to deal with two Deadly goonies flying Vultures. Nonsense it may be, I still find it fun though.

I just did an amazing assassination mission - Competent Python with two Vulture wingmen both packing railguns.

The ones with vulture wings are very tough. T
he one piece of advice I can give is try to find them in supercruise, and interdcit one of them, it takes a bit of time before the rest of the wing arrive.
You can then either interdict the main target and get an ealry start on him, or interdict one of the wings and try and get him destroyed before the others drop in. (works well with an eagle, not so much with a vulture).
That and shield cell banks, lot's of those is usually how I do it.

3 times I interdicted and hammered a Competant Conda...who jumped out each time, and was fully repaired each time I interdicted him (moments after I re-entered SC).

Would be nice if mission target NPCs were more persistant than this, him junping out was fun, him insta healing from 20% hull/zero shields to 100% Hull/100% Shields just made it feel bad.

OP: Kill missions are a bit crazy at the moment, I've faced Harmless-Competent Condas who fought like Elite Condas (constant accurate firing, always facing target etc.); and give Elite Conda bounties (350K+); I wouldn't pay any attention to the mission rank listed; nor to the targets listed skill level, I think they're both borked.

Oh, and a Vulture is too feeble for the job at hand, Pirate Kings should kill Vultures, in fact anything below Combat Python should not be able to do such missions IMHO; and I remember when you could do these mission in a Viper :)

Yep I had a sarah stone in a python with vulture wingman. I was in a fdl. Ran away 3 times with barely any hull. Changed by huge hp for a pulse and just headed for python. When destroyed this legged it.

Repeated similar mission in my python and its a walk in the park. Definitely made easier with a solid ship. I would hate to try this in cobra or equivalent.

Wingmen add a whole new difficulty layer to assassination missions.
.
If your target's wings are light fighters (say Eagle-level) or are shieldless, go for them first. Then, concentrate on your Target.
.
If the police arrive (usually light ships like eagles or vipes), try to severely hurt them (but not destroy). Chances are that they will probably retreat to supercruise, (and you won't incurr their bounty).
.
If your target is well guarded (Vultures and the like) it will be an attrition battle. No option is good. You just have to rely on full-pip sys and keep drinking shield potions, one after another. If you brought a good reserve of shield potions, you may still prevail against difficult odds.
