Newcomer / Intro Assign key to open specific panel tab?

Hi Cmdr's
In my basic set-up I press key Num 1 on my keyboard to open the left hand panel.
If it opens in Navigation I then use 'E' to tab to the right to reach Transactions and then again to reach Contacts.
The 'Q' key takes me in the opposite direction.

Is it possible to assign a single key, a sequence of keystrokes, or a key combo such as <SHIFT> + <KEY> to take me directly to Navigation, another to take me directly to Transactions and another to take me directly to Contacts?

The reason I ask is I want to assign/bind these to the unused buttons at the bottom of my joystick.

If I can't do it in Elite does anybody know of a Thrustmaster macro that does this or something similar?
It's been quite a while since I did any serious coding so I would rather have a couple of examples I could adapt rather than trying to build a new one from scratch in their software.

I've had a bit of a Google, and there's some impressive coding out there, but I don't want a whole (complicated) package, just simple stuff I can play about with.

Thanks.

You can use voice attack to do pretty much everything. You don't have to operate it with voice commands, you can also setup macro to work on key or button presses. I wouldn't fly without it, cheap, easy to use, incredibly powerful.

So much this. Almost like it was designed for ED, and whilst I haven't looked recently, I'm sure it was only about $8

You can program sequences (macros) in TARGET.

I've had a look at TARGET.
The problem is (as I understand it at the moment) is that it's not a repeatable sequence - because the panel may not open in Navigation when I press the Num 1 key.
IF I'm in Navigation 1+E+E takes me to Contacts.
If I close the panel it reopens in Contacts
So 1+E+E then tabs me to Transactions.

OK - thanks for that I'll look it up.

Thanks also to D.G.Cerberus .

I'll let you know how I get on.

EDIT:
Doesn't look too promising from their website.
It appears to work on chaining existing commands together.
If there's no existing command to go directly to a specific panel it won't do what I want it to do.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It looks good for other things though so I might give it a go.
Current price is apparently $10 US.

I think I need code that reads a game variable for the current tab position so it can then tab appropriately or inserts a variable relating to a specific tab.

In Voice Attack, you use a variable, then the "Close Window" command can move back to the Nav Panel before closing.

Edit: EdDiscovery now has Voice Commands (free!) but I have not had a play yet to see what it can do.

OK.
Thank you.
I'll buy a copy of Voice Attack tonight and give it a go.

I've got EdDiscovery 9.0.2.0.
Is the Voice Command an add-on?
Because I can't find it.

If you go to Manage Add-Ons, I think its "FREEVOICECONTROLV1"

Found it (nobody mention Specsavers !!)

Unfortunately it says:
"It comes with a set of preconfigured voice commands which automatically bind to your control setup in Elite (as long as a keyboard action is associated with it). "

So I'm a bit dubious.

I'll go for Voice Attack

Voice attack all the way.
I would find it hard to play elite without it.
I have many macro's set up with it, including various pip management settings, preset text messages for coms, request docking with a push of a button and many more.

Hi all! Being brand new to the game, glad to see "newbies" thread [big grin]
a place for the questions that have been asked / answered a thousand times before lol.
I'm playing it in VR as well - what an incredible experience! However, when reading about ED, I always hear about the "steep learning curve" - I swear their referring to crazy number of key bindings! It took me about 10 minutes to realize this was "unplayable" without something like voice attack. So I got that, and to avoid further frustration, got the "ASTRA" voice set from HCS. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how navigate inside each info pane. Turns out the answer was here! (whadyaknow..) in the "1+E+E" comment. My problem now is... if you look at the webpage for the "ASTRA" descriptions - it states "3000 responses" - however in the pdf file, there's only a handful of commands explained... so my new challenge is figuring out all the voice commands available. Anyone know how to find anything like that? (likely better asked on the HCS forums I suppose...) I will vouch for Voice Attack 100% though. Totally changes the game!

One thing to keep in mind about Voice Attack..

While it works great for single key press commands like 'retract landing gear,' or 'engage super cruise,' it's still problematic when it comes to navigating menus. This is not the fault of the Voice Attack software, it's a problem with Elite Dangerous. It's a problem because you cannot do what the OP asked and just assign one key press for a command that's buried inside a menu.

For example, I set up a voice command to request docking at a station. There is no direct key for request docking, so in order to pull this off I made a new Voice Attack Command that exceutes the specific keys in order. So when I say 'request docking' it does number 1, pauses 1 second, then presses E to tab over, pause, presses E again, pause, then down once, down again, and click. This is where 'request docking' is under the menu.

Most of the time it works fine, but only if you leave the menu on the first panel. If I close the menu on the contacts panel for example, then the macro doesn't work because that set of key strokes only works when the menu opens to the navigation panel. So while Voice Attack can kind of do what the OP wants, it won't be perfect by any means.

I am not home right now, but if you look in voice attack, you can export your commands either to a file for backing up or to an HTML document. Export your list of commands to an HTML and open it with a web browser or text editor. You can then search through it and find specific commands. If you're unsure what voice command activates a specific ability you can usually find it this way. For example, I wanted to know the voice command to use a Shield Cell Bank, so I searched the document for 'Shield Cell.' I found the rule and opened it, and under command it says 'Deploy Shield Cell.' That's the voice command for that function.

If you have any problem finding it, let me know and I'll post more detailed instructions when I have the software in front of me.

that was helpful, I found the export function and got the html file. I'm finding some fine tuning needs be done between joystick assignments and voice commands, and keep running into quirks... but I'm starting to find its more "me" than settings lol.
