Newcomer / Intro Astronomical discovery sound?

Do you have your discovery scanner in a fire group, and do you fire it long enough to "BWAAARPP"?

Same here. When I first started playing I didn't realize that I had my discovery scanner on the same button as my primary fire. Whenever I was in a fight I kept hearing that sound and a message saying "No new astronomical objects detected" or something like that.

When I went in to the fire control groups and took the scanner off my fire button...I never heard that sound again.

I just press 'T' and the scan is automatic. No sound though(?)

There is a difference between 'Scanning' as in analyzing an unexplored object you are targeting - this is when you target the object with T and keep it in your sights and should be taking something like 20-40 seconds depending on distance and plays a gradually increasing sound effect - and using the scanner to discover (mark new unexplored objects on your navigation)

The big boom is produced when you actually 'Fire' the Discovery Scanner - an equipped component

I have to press the right mouse button a couple of seconds for the scanner. You see the icon in the HUD how your scan advances. At the end of the scan it informs you of any astronomical discoveries and also if there are none. Every time when the scan finishes (takes a few seconds with pressed mouse button)this way you should hear the sound.

The scanner takes time.

Personally, at the moment I have my primary fire group set up with a secondary scan for wanted status. It's pretty simple.

I have my non-combat scans somewhere else.

Laughed out loud to this imagining the fights you had. They must have been pretty surreal!

I think that's it. I was targeting Suns that I came across after a jump and simply pressed 'T' thinking that was the same thing.

Thanks. :)

I like others have my discovery and warrant scanner set to the second fire group which is my right mouse button. Hold it for 2-3 seconds until the bar fills up then you will hear the Bwwwaaaarm
