ASTROX Imperium

I am curious: has anyone ever played ASTROX Imperium? It is an early access game that is often described as an offline, more accessible version of Eve Online. I've seen that description bandied about a lot, but after watching this video from SplatterCat, I have to say that that is precisely what this looks like. And, honestly, it sounds quite good!

The dev - this appears to be a one man show - seems keen to pack the game with a lot of content. Here's the latest dev update:

I might have to pull the trigger on this.

Anybody else play it? Is it as good as it seems?

Since I discovered this post, I've been doing a lot of searching and watching today.
I've been looking for another space game to divert my attention to and missed this one (until now).
Other games I've considered are Starfield (whenever it comes out), Everspace 2, and a couple of others.
My current time sink is X4 but I've played extensively Evochron, ED, Homeworld, Freelancer, Independence War (I / II), and to a lesser extent, Mass Effect:A and NMS.

Thanks for the link. GL HF

(Edit: I discovered another game called Helium Rain when I was searching for more Astrox vids. Its not graphically awesome but very nice and simple plus its Newtonian (as advertised), I may have to try it out too.)

I was happy to discover this, too. I always wanted an offlne Eve and this fella seems to be doing his best to make it a reality. The only thing that is staying my hand is that when it comes to ambitious space games, you have to use caution before you spend your money because so many become vaporware. I don't think that will happen with this title - this seems to be a passion project - but I would like to wait until I can see an end to the EA process. But, for $15, what have I got to lose?

I dabble with X4 too, but that is one of those games that as much as I try to like it, I just find it a much too frustrating experience to play for long. There are parts of it that make me want to pull my hair out!

I've never heard of it. Janky name doesn't inspire me much. Helium Rain is a rather simple trading and combat spacegame with a couple progression elements. Gfx are a bit weirdish, mostly the scale feels a bit off. You can build stations though and design up production chains. It's in a nutshell an X game in lite.

after watching more Helium vids, I tend to agree with your assessment. Flying Isaac Newton was what peaked my interest but thinking back to my Pioneer, OOlite, Lunar Lander days, I'd probably get tired of it after a while w/o some heavy game play between flights.

Astrox is becoming more interesting but I'm still studying the situation.

Sometime ago I was investigating various space games.
Started playing this one especially as EVE offline.
Looks similar.
Only external camera.
Played for 20 hours, got several ships, "played" with different weapons.
The game is quite relaxing even combats, not enough pew-pew as for me.

Ever played I-War? One of the best newtonics and combat spacegame.

IW - yes, but not as much as I should have.
I-War was cool.
I'm getting very close to getting Astrox. I'm having trouble getting good search hits for cockpit view or 1st person views. I'm sure there's pics out there but no luck so far.
Anybody here actually playing it ?

Well, I bought them both. Shame on me.
GL HF

Edit: Now the conundrum is which one to install and try out first. I guess I'm the first person on this forum to play Astrox so I'll provide my opinions after a few hundred hours.
I-War Deluxe is on Gog for $2 and some change at the time of this edit. Have a nice day
:)
