At last - It's been a tough slog!

She's gorgeous!
Here's a build for you that should be in your price range it's similar to the one I use.

The cannons are great because it allows you to use a smaller powerplant and if you're ever interdicted you can run 4 0 2 in the pips and be safe to jump out if you need to and have plenty of firepower vs npcs.
welcome to the club commander!

Why's that?
The asp and the orca are both 20% off at the Irkutsk station in Alioth

congrats Shirley!

take care of your new owner, make sure he's careful through the letterbox, and don't go to close to the sun.

bought mine yesterday, and it's been a blast. "now you've gone and done it, i'm gonna punch your card in!" - "yes please come closer and i'll show you my card...all 8 of them, 4 big pulse lasers, 2 medium, and 2 small". thats been the exchange in the cz's i've been to with Shiva. Rhuagh, my trade anaconda is on hot standby as i like to switch between pve and trading.

fly safe

Congratz :)

I keep mine for trading, Python for fighting.
With a few weaps on it - A lot of damage can be tanked and dealt though :D

Shirley you can't be serious.

This must be a pick of Shirley's Temple.

Huh. Maybe. I still wouldn't do it; I might actually notice the ammunition cost. Not to mention that I like to spend a long time patrolling in a res, not head back to base every ten minutes because I'm out of ammo. :p
It's a trading config..

I sorry to say running cost/risk on Anaconda to high and unless 1.3 improves module system, as to easy to take out.
I work on how much trading or combat time costs me to re-buy current ship and Anaconda not worth the trouble.

Python just about ok, but 60,000+ hull integrity every 12+ jumps is a pain. God know what that would be like on Anaconda.

At the moment Anaconda over rated. Still enjoy Asp but Python covers high end trading and combat.

P.s. Oh and kiss good buy to outposts and options they give you. If this is the only ship you own.

Although it's a lovely ship of which I tried on the test server. It is not one I see myself flying or even buying. I always did like flying the smaller ships, which I did in EvE with an "I don't give a damn attitude" and multitudes of fun. Seems I am the same with Elite. :)
Gratz on your purchase and may it serve you well. All the best,
Shok.

Congrats, it does feel like an achievement, even getting the bare hull :)

I fly a defensive trader Conda. It has 50% more cargo than a trader Python, has more firepower, more shields and better jump range than a similarly specced Python. You lose medium pads is a drawback, but not insurmountable. On a 2600cr /t space truck I can return 4-5Mcr / hr depending on how grindy it gets and how much Gran Turismo 6 I play whilst docked ;)

Normally there are two outcomes. If something gets in front of you, it leaves; if something gets behind you, you leave. Very survivable unless you make bad choices ;)

You're way off. A grade battle Conda only runs around 400,000,000.

Not that that isn't quite a bit more than she has.

On the other hand, Sasani: just because it isn't grade A doesn't mean it can't fight. Give Shirley a 5A (or 6A if you wanna splurge) shield and three-four boosters, two or three large burst laser turrets at 840k each, pulse turrets on the rest of your weapon mounts, maybe a class-4 gimballed cannon down below if you want to spend the credits (fun but not necessary), and take her into a Res. Even with a c8, or maybe even D8, power plant and D7 thrusters, you'll be surprised what kind of NPC butt she kicks! Just don't fight other players. You might actually be able to take Shirly bounty-hunting, maybe even into warzones, just on what you have.

Condas are tough. Even with low-rated equipment, Condas are frigging tough. I was astonished the first time I took my C- and D-rated (except for shields) Conda into a res and started squishing NPC Condas left and right.

Yeah really tough - in my first couple of hours of flying I've widened the mailbox by a few inches - I cant believe some people fly this thing without shields! I think after a day of trading I'll be out there....

that's still a little too rich for my blood, but I'll be there in no time... mind you I currently have a 7A power distributer... 8D is not much worse, but way cheeper - I might make a switcharoo.

Keep your eyeline up near the top of the mail slot. It is counter-intuitive as every other ship has much more structure above the cabin position.
Also you are right at the back of the ship, so behind the point of rotation... If you pull the nose up, the tail goes down and there is a large vertical bulkhead on the underside of the hull which can become jammed on the mail slot if you aren't careful (ask me how I know).

If you are trading it is all about keeping the jump range to the optimum for whatever route you are on. 17LY is a bit of a break point from my experience.

That's another reason for the boomsticks, cannons don't use squat for capacitor energy. :)

Ok so I've flown around in Shirley for a couple of hours now. What have I learned?

1 hour of solid grind on a 2,400/t round trip trade route.
The stations are 7ls and 17ls from their respective Suns, and are two hyperspace jumps apart.
In 1 hour I managed to do 5.5 round trips so that came out at a 5m profit.

On paper this should have been almost 6 million, but I think this bulk trade tax thing (for which I have never seen a good and adequate description, just finger in the air stuff) starts to sting pretty hard at this scale.

Tradaconda has about 75% more cargo than Tradapython/Tradathon/Trathon (naa none of those work)....
Tradaconda is about 200% more expensive than the python (more like 250% by the time I get an A class thruster)
Wear and tear after a couple of hours flight is about 50% more than the python (when I checked I was at 99% and it cost 54,000 to repair, negligible in the grand scheme)
Tradaconda nets 25% more as a trader - why? slower, no platforms, bulk trade tax....

I was hoping for a little more £$€/hour as I expected to keep this as a pure trader for when I need cash / I'm not sure yet whether it is worth it... In the meantime I'll give it some teeth to see how much bite it has as a fighter. Worst case I'll have some fun in a new ship for a while - Best case I'll grow to love Shirley.

I really like flying her, I am sure I will enjoy it more with A thrusters and looking forward to finding out how well she melts away opponents - but it will take a lot of time to get the spacebucks together...
