Engineers At the end of the grind

Having worn a hole in the fabric of space and time, collecting this and that, I have come to a conclusion. It is totally worth the effort :D
My main ship is a Federal Assault Ship. Now as you know, the stock FAS has weak shields. Well take one with Prismatic shields and two shield boosters, and you start with about 320Mj of shield power. Up those two boosters to tier 3 heavy duty boosters, and get a decent RNG roll for the tier 5 shield upgrade, and oh my actual God, 677Mj of shields on an FAS.

Next step FSD updgrade to tier 5, got me 20 light years jump range.
However, the tier 3 upgrade to thrusters (clean drive tuning) has turned this FAS into an Eagle on steroids. :D

Boost speed 430 and it turns on a dime with nice bleed off, resulting in a tank that can do handbrake turns. [woah]

Spent 20 minutes in a Hazres and couldn't stop laughing at the insane kills I was getting. So now I am off to grind for weapon upgrades.

I know right my fdl is a god of war now and i love it. There are some things that need tweeking with 2.1 but the main result is awsome.

When i found 2 specialised legacy firmware on a crashed satalite i was like YES! i was so exited and jumped off to felicity for some dirty drive fun and im so pleased with the results.

Tho 200t of brandy seems a bit crazy in comparison to some of the other requirments lol

Man she must have a serious drink problem. :D

Sounds quite inauspicious for sure CMDR, and you have not even upgraded the weapons!! Many want challenge and here you are seeing how easy it is now laughing it all off....Nerf hammer enroute?

The fight that amazed me, was a wing of three Vultures, all ranked deadly. This was in a normal rez site, between the FAS and having the cops help, the fight lasted about 4 minutes. I lost one ring of my shields, didn't even need to use FA off except for closing distance to the next target.

Glad you have the time to play so much OP.
One of the advantages of being an old retired git. :D

Great to see.

I haven't had a chance to craft yet in 2.1 (still out exploring), but in the 2.1 betas I had my Asp maxed out, and it was insane. Fast, agile, decently shielded and with a 40Ly jump range. I was giggling flying it about, even started taking it into RES, which I'd never do before. I know it'll take a lot more effort to reproduce that ship in 2.1, but I can't wait to try.

Good work chief!

You are correct and that's what makes me laugh when I read posts from folk saying don't bother with the Engineers if you whine about the RNG stuff so much. Yeah like you can ignore these kind of advantages!

I also have an Asp and Python, both have the same level of upgrades as the FAS. The Asp is my go to ship for exploring, or trading rares and looking for materials. Get interdicted, submit, FA off, boost to 430 and drop some mines :D Python is just for trading, it still feels sluggish, but my God the 990Mj of shields can take a hammering.

Congrats! Good that you're liking it. I couldn't fly anymore without the Grade 5 FSD and Shield/Shield Boost mods.

And here i am wondering why people keeping saying mods/engineers are totally optional and not needed. They've clearly never tried mods and just riding on the 'play your way', 'play the game instead of grinding' retort.

Enjoy the upgrades before next months NERFING!

I would hope it's coming but FD kind of stopped addressing OP things after adjusting the Python to sane levels. The Vulture was never balanced despite obvious problems for instance. I think the forums are too unfocused and noisy to get messages through to FD these days.

Dammit! Now we're back to the point where the AI is getting too easy again.

We need tougher NPCs and cleverer Engineers to compensate.

Come on, FD, this game needs more challenges!
