At which price point would you surrender to VR?

The problem is that the next generation should have more resolution, which is the main limitation of the current VR headsets. That will probably make them more expensive to manufacture, and require an even more powerful computer... but at the same time, people is waiting for lower prices to buy it. So it's hard to know what's going to happen. The best bet would probably be for HTC to release a Vive Lite with a little less resolution, and maybe without camera, so they can sell it much cheaper and start gaining some market. That'd also lower the computer power requirements. Once there's market they can start slowly improving the specs.

Since GlobusDiablo wants to run ED, I don't think lowering the game quality is the solution. We are all trying to eek out more quality through hardware, pixel tweaks and such. The quality of the game is more in FDev hands and will be aimed at current HMDs for some time I would think.
As for GlobusDiablo's wish for the magic price point, I suspect as more HMD's of current spec come to market (OSVR has just met current resolution) competition will drive down prices. I would not expect the kind of price cut he hopes for, for a year at least. One would think current economic factors will also play a part in Britain. Time will tell.

You don't think God rays, onioning (vive), screen-door, cooling (long term comfort), adjustability (got glasses?), FoV, and cost might also be some limitations? Those and software support (FD: Please add support for multi-projection and fix the shimmering / moire pattern issues)?

More pixels does always mean more power needed.

Doubt it. By the time you get a higher-resolution option from the existing players; you'll get a price reduction on the current models.

And the specs aren't that difficult. The current i3 is powerful enough, and so is the 1060 (by quite a margin).

It's amazing we can get it for the price we can these days, the joy of it still hasn't worn off for me since DK2 days and like someone commented earlier -- I play less, a few times a week. But when I do, man is it satisfying. VR changed everything when it comes to games like this. There's no going back from here and it's only going to get better. I'm glad I got on board for
"good enough," though. It's been a total blast.

Actually, i play less, since i own VR. The experience however, is far mor intense. I played Elite for 2 hours and more a day before VR. Its now down to 3 sessions a week, but everytime i put the HMD on, i am on instant vacation and everytime i take it off, i do it with a big smile. Honestly, my life is better with VR.
Dude, you should be writing advertisement slogans for VR!!:)
