Atmospheric planets now rather than later It can be done

Your team released planetary landing in Horizons, limiting us to only landing on planets with no atmospheres. At this point you could implement your first pass on atmosphere planets.
I am not talking about planets with massive cities and complex life and eco systems. Those would take much more time to develop.

I am talking about barren worlds that contain an atmosphere. We are talking adding some dynamic weather to these planets and an atmosphere. A planet like present day Mars is just a barren world with an atmosphere. we are talking volcanic planets and high metal content worlds. I know you can do this guys. Please add it sooner rather than later. And along with this you could add the ability to get out and walk. Im not talking about walking in space stations, just the planets that we land on. This feature alone would breath life to this game beyond any more PVP content.

Please listen to us. Thanks

Yes please. This game is STARVED FOR VARIETY OF CONTENT to a ludicrous degree. FD doesn't even need to make big sweeping changes like they act like the recent patches have been. People simply are begging for more to actually do.

I think space legs are going to be very complicated because it may change how the architecture of the system works. In ED you are the ship, or the SRV, not the pilot driving them. They may just be able to make a third "vehicle" of the person which wouldn't be too difficult.

I would like to land on atmospheric planets with weather to just sit and time lapse but adding weather as well as how that effects terrain for driving and the air for landing would be a large task. I really would love to see this come for 2.4 but I wouldn't expect to see it until 3+

I'm pretty sure they're already working as hard as they can to deliver those things.

Im not sure. That is why I mention it and raise a voice for it. All I see all over the forums is balance stuff and PVP stuff. We need to ask for PVE content or they may start to think that all we care about is combat.

Atmosphere and legs are huge undertakings, it's not going to happen in an update or two. If you doubt it's still in the works just watch the latest livestream with DB, it's still in their plans.

It's not as easy as it sounds. Especially since they're using their in-house Cobra engine and have to write most of the code from scratch for walking around (animations, skeletons, collision, physics, deformable clothes, weapons, etc.). Your typical game engine—be it Unreal, Frostbite, or CryEngine—already has many of these things well established and bug-tested which requires much less effort to implement into a new game.

As for atmospheric planets, it can also take a lot of development time if they want to implement proper light transport and scattering and have it well-optimized. Again, it has to be done from scratch because of in-house engine.

I understand what you are saying but to be honest with ourselves, how long until the community just gives up on this game? There has been a few disappointments already, too many for me to be honest. I have been playing since release and I have not seen almost anything developed for exploration. Exploration has kind of been left the way its been for too long. Even if they have legit excuses people just dont care. And when they see new features coming out that no one has asked for, they lose patience. I am one of them. I am losing patience with this game. Some of the big features coming out for this game so far have seemed out of place or disconnected with the game. Almost as if they are separate from the game. They even get their own special names for the features like Powerplay, engineers, or Holo-me. Things just should feel natural as part of the game. But to get to the point, I am truly losing patience waiting for the real substance that never seems to come.

Personally I think engineers is awesome. Powerplay was a bad move and they've acknowledge it, the idea was great, the execution lacking. Holo-me is them laying the ground work for future First Person mode. They're delivering stuff in bits and that may be unsatisfying for some but it's what we got.

Atmospheric planets are a given and should be the next evolution with at least 3.0 Beta. We already have a planetary landing meta which upon approach seems like we are already dealing with an atmosphere where one does not exist. My guess is that the programming is in place and ready to go. What is missing is New York city in Sol Earth and something to do after we land there. That is why we don't have them yet. Just a total guess on my part. We didn't have "legs" in the pervious versions of the games but there was a simple camera we could use to explore a city. With the camera suite we now have there are amazing possibilities. Some programmer team at Frontier is working on cities. At this point we don't need to interact with them. We just need to see and explore them. I'm good with that...
