Atomic Rocket

An interesting web site that discusses various aspects of space combat. I'm not sure I agree with all his conclusions, especially the one's about stealth in space, but I found it a good read.

It might be old news for many frontier fans (me included), but it's still a very good find and it's nice to see it linked here.

As for stealth, I think those conclusions are particularly solid - of course unless you're close enough to something you can hide behind.

True, occlusion would be an ideal scenario, but I think the conclusions are more applicable to tactical, rather strategic surprise. For example unmanned ships (which would be smaller and genrate less heat, the advantages of no life support being needed)on slow burn engines could achieve strategic surprise. Of course your looking at a longer timescale. Even larger ships with an obvious burn only provides so much information, so you might know something is coming, but you'd have to spread your defence over a wider area, unless you're happy to conduct the defense in orbit :)
