What's disturbing is that any criticism of Islam you are branded a racist (even though Islam is a religion not a race) and must turn a blind eye to it's more extreme practices in the name of community relations.
Correcting false stereotypes and prejudices is not turning a blind eye. Islam is is convenient bogeyman and figleaf. People who are prejudiced towards dark skinned people talk about Islam instead of race and ethnicity but the prejudice is the same as before.
Education and living opportunities are the key in the Islamic world as elsewhere. The Turkish cleric that Erdogan paints as a terrorist is a very moderate, tolerant one who speaks about the importance of education and of modern values. There are plenty of Islamic clergymen like that, and they have a lot of followers. Unfortunately nationalistic dictators like the House of Saud, Erdogan and others like that support Wahabism and other intolerant and militant versions because it helps them stay in power.
We need to support the democratic voices in the Islamic world and stop propping up strongmen and dictatorships for short term gains.
Racism ain't a card, it's an ideology of supremacism and prejudice against other human beings based on their skin, their culture, their country of origin, or anything else that can collectively identify them.

It's not about "shutting people up". It's about opposing an ideology that basically makes it ok to dehumanize people. An ideology that believes there are humans who don't deserve same respect, due process, or simple dignity because of who they are, rather than what they do.
If you think that's a "card" then all I can say is "moral deficit".
Also, it's clear somebody doesn't know what a race actually is!

This thread, and others, have recently contained disgraceful islamphobic posts. They're quite acceptable, I guess.
It is indeed rather disturbing. I wonder how many Muslims happen to play this game. Having worked with, studied with and lived near people who identify themselves as Muslim, my guess is those who post about them collectively as bogeymen don't personally know any (aside from they guy at the deli or the odd taxi driver). Interestingly, it's no different than antisemitism (but is somehow deemed more acceptable).
Because there are 15 million Jews in religious decline, there are 1 billion Muslims in religious growth, even if only 20% want sharia law, that's a genuine threat to western civilisation, to make myself clear i despise all religion, but Islam is bigger, Muslims are not the problem, Islam is the problem, they are victims of ancient cult brainwashing.
You have just reduced one fifth of the worlds population to a "brainwashed" impediment to your vision of a safer world.
What if science didn't agree with you? Will you, with a breathtaking lack of self-awareness and no small measure of irony, refuse to accept the science because it conflicts with your beliefs? Or will you readjust your ideas on this accordingly?
Yes, anyone who believes in virgin births, magical arks, magical burning bushes, earth is 6000 years old, magical zombie prophets, that gays are inferior, women are inferior, sharia law, torah law, bible law or mein kampf, is a person who has subscribed to dangerous brainwashing (whether they interprit in a dangerous way or not is another matter). I have respect for all humans regardless of their faith, but i have ZERO respect for that faith, and i never will, i am not suggesting we ban private practice of religion, i'm suggesting that we ensure secularism for the sake of everyone, including the brainwashed church and mosque goers, so that we can protect their right to believe .
