Attacked During Tutorial

I am very new to this game and these types of games in general, as well as multiplayer enabled games.

That being said, I went through a couple of the tutorials (after I dealt with the steep learning curve) and really enjoyed what I was experiencing until I got to the Travel Tutorial. Everything went according to plan until I jumped through hyperspace to the other star system and made my way to the station where I was supposed to dock. On my way to this station I was interrupted and contacted by a vessel named "Jesse" with a message that said "DIE!" He proceeded to blast away at my ship with me not knowing what the hell I was doing and ultimately destroyed my ship. I then get a tip on super cruising and I'm left questioning what just happened.

Being so new to the game, I was wondering if any veterans can answer my question as to whether that ship was another player or a computer AI. If it was a computer AI, I guess it was just some bad luck. If it was another player, I'm confused as to why they would allow players to harass other players that are doing a tutorial mission.

LOL, didnt even know that was possible to happen.
And it was an AI if it was a player it would have CMDR in front of the name.

I wasn't sure where this thread was going...kinda confused at the title

I don't think that should happen. Were you taking a long time and this is the tutorial's way of making you start over? I'd ticket it, just to make sure the there isn't some weird connection to the open play or that AI aren't going postal in the tutorial.

All tutorial ships are AI. The purpose of each tutorial is to teach you a new skill. They could not do that if real commanders showing up and doing unplanned things to you.

Ahahah, really? Amazing! Well, thats a good way for the game to introduce itself to you. I cant stop saying "Its Elite: Dangerous, not Elite: Daycare". Believe me, you will have more moments in the game when you will scream: "what? its unfair! i only accidentally clicked the gun button!"... Anyhow, great story and bad luck (i see a pattern here on the forum, bad luck stories are the best stories :D).

I suspect interdiction has crept into the tutorial. You should have seen a blue escape vector appear which you need to align your ship with.

That sounds wrong! Ticket it - as I don't think that you should be able to get attacked or interdicted as part of the tutorial mission.. unless it is specifically mentioned and they explain how to escape an interdiction etc.

As you your question - it will have been an NPC, at I think the tutorial missions are done in self contained instances.
