Attacked whilst in Galaxy Map.

So I'd just left a station in fairly remote area, an I switched into the galaxy map to decide where I was off to next. After some reading, I chose a target system and closed the map.

Only to find that I had been being attacked by another player for a while whilst I was in the galaxy map mode and my ship was now heavily damaged with my engines disabled so that there was nothing I could do except continue to be fired upon until I was destroyed.

I wasn't aware that the player currently doesn't get any indication that they are under attack when they are checking out trade routes etc. Wouldn't it be a good idea for the map to automatically close if you're being attacked?

Is this a ticketable issue? Coz i'm thinking that If you were seated in a ship reading something and someone fired on you, you'd obviously notice.

Its why I play solo mode ;) But yea sounds like a good idea

Got to be a bug or design flaw. In the original you knew if you were being attacked even if you were looking at an information screen as your condition would go to red.

Hmm, i thought that it used to have the ship say, "under attack", albeit a little quietly when that happened. Either way, it s always worth doing your route planning in a safe place.

It shouldn't auto-close because that would override somebody's ability to keep the map open even though they know they are being interdicted. However you make a good point, most of the other warnings and audio can be heard in the galaxy map, the HUD warnings should really appear when in that mode. You should have heard interdiction sounds.

I believe the original plan was to have the galaxy map projected over the HUD, so perhaps its an oversight that visual queues aren't now reflected in that mode.

This happened to me last night, albeit by NPC ships. I was luckier to find only my shields down and 30% hull damage and a cracked screen.

I would have expected at least the initial "under attack" voice over, but there wasn't even this.

To be honest, I don't really like how the galaxy map is a complete other game screen and not an overlay like all the other screens in the game. I feel it would be better immersion and a lot safer if it was a windowed overlay - although I suspect there is a technical reason why it's been done like this.

You get pulled out of the galaxy map if you're interdicted, it would be good for the same to happen if you're attacked (only initially as you may be in the map looking to escape).

Can you not hear yourself being fired on, i.e the laser noises etc while in the map?

If not aye I'd ticket that.

Some sort of warning is required there, not closing the map, audioable cues, flashing text that sort of thing.

Each time I have been fiddling around in the galaxy map and been interdicted (By NPC's not players) the galaxy map would auto close immediately.
Of course, its usually a much better idea to use it when in a safe area.

It doesn't make sense to me that all sounds are muted though.. but I would have thought it would auto close when under attack in the same way as above.
Hmmm.. I will have to remember that one.

Only check your galaxy map in Supercruise, that way if you get interdicted your map closes down, or do it in a safe place

Yeah, I'm surprised there isn't some feedback letting you know you are under attack, like sounds or even the map flickering and shaking a bit.

Anyway thanks for the heads up, I'll have to be careful where I use the map from now on!

I believe the galaxy map is projected in your helmet and the joystick and throttle are set to navigate it, so i dont see it too immersion breaking.
However i agree with having warnings when getting attacked while in galaxy/system map.

Yes - this is what happens to me also. Sometimes I think an area is safer than it actually is ;-)

That's why I plan my trips while sitting in the hangar.

That said the ship's computer voice should still work. I thought one of the warnings was under attack?

Ok, thanks guys I'll ticket this. I hope it get's sorted, makes me a wee bit scared to go into the map unless I'm docked somewhere or in supercruise. I wasn't interdicted btw, I was just cruising along after having left a remote station.

No, no noises and no warnings. Just the nice tranquil sounds of the galaxy map, whilst your ship is being shredded. :)
