Hello Commanders,
I would like to introduce you to a personal project I am working on which combines two of my favourite things: programming and music!
This project aims to create procedurally generated music based on systems in Elite: Dangerous (though the same concepts are applicable elsewhere). My initial goal is to create ambient/exploration music that is clearly associated with a star system’s contents; at this point it is solely based on type and positioning of the bodies, not details such as mass or size. While I aim to eventually make this the type of thing that can be built on the fly by a programming language, I first would like to build some musical pieces and come up with an algorithm that I am happy with. Think of this as a musical proof of concept phase.
Here are a couple of examples so far (files on Google Drive):
Markab
HIP 10716 (may have been generated wrong depending on placement of a dwarf)
Ngurawong
Crucis Sector AA-Z b1
Col 285 Sector XG-I b24-0
Rukbat
So here's where you come in - I have a request from the community, for those willing: responses with song requests. I am still in the process of building the musical framework, and I find it easiest to build it when I have a star system to work with. If some of you have a star system that you would like to hear music for, I would love to try and generate a track for it with this method. All I need is a list of stellar / planetary bodies that includes their name and type (link to a database such as EDSM works too if the info is correct). As soon as it is finished I will add links to the bottom of this post (where general progress will also be tracked).
Most importantly, I hope that you enjoy the music. It definitely won’t be to everyone’s taste, but as long as one other person enjoys it I will consider it a success [smile]
Progress:
Main Stellar Body synthesizer selection: 47%
Celestial Body synthesizer selection: 25%
Celestial Body motif generation: 11%
Drums motif generation: 33%
