ATTENTION: All Elite Explorer CMDRs, The Hoon Hunters need your help!

Reddit thread

TO ALL WILLING AND ABLE COMMANDERS:

Are you the type of commander who explores the depths of the galaxy for that one great discovery?

Are you a pilot who loves to find the diamond in the rough?

Are you bored and have nothing else to do?

Well then the Hoon Hunters of Newton's Gambit have a job for you!

AVAILABLE MISSION---------------------------------------------

Find Hoon-worthy Planets

(0 cr, Street Cred+++, Inf with your crush++++)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mission Description:

With the release of Odyssey, and all planetary data wiped clean of every storage device in the galaxy, we at Newton's Gambit are on the hunt once again for planets to hoon.

What is Hooning you ask?

Flying low, fast and way too recklessly around very difficult terrain. (Here's a kickass vid of one of the greats hooning, and here is another post going in much greater detail describing the activity).

What planet topography is good for hooning?

Deep crevices with tightly packed terrain and unpredictable variability in the terrain. It is different from canyon running, as canyons are wide and straightish, which are relatively easy and boring to fly through.

By "deep" I mean at least 2km (consistently) deep, with 3km and higher being ideal. [PLACEHOLDER MOM JOKE HERE]

Here is a top down pic of a Horizon hooning planet showing the difference of good hooning topography vs a canyon (blue circled area is good hooning, red circled area is a canyon run area - i.e. not what we are looking for).

What do I do if I find a Hoon Candidate?

We Hoon Hunters are currently scouring the galaxy, both inside the bubble and beyond, and could use your help!

If you come across a planet that meets the description, please post it here or send me a dm.

We have also setup a discord for Hoon Hunting, where we are gathering data and keeping track of our finds. Feel free to join us there!

Thank you, Commander.

Good hunting!

P.S. First person to find a planet that rivals the likes of the Horizon version of planet Achelous 8 A, I'll buy and ship a 6-pack of your favorite beverage.

TLDR: Please help us nutters find planets with challenging terrain for us to blow ourselves up on. We can't get enough of the rebuy screen.

Planetary ring city next to canyons, in the bubble:

Solati 10 A....maybe? Never have I ever "hooned." Seemed like lots of canyons and valleys at cross angles. Might work.

I'm about (I think) finished with some re-equipment re-mod work then headed back to the black. I'll be happy to shoot back any interesting 'race tracks' I happen upon.

I will not waste my exploration time on a game that makes all past discoveries meaningless and essentially erases the planets and moons of the Milky Way. THEY RUINED DISTANT WORLDS. I can' tell you what dilettante leadership decision making lead to this massive cluster, but it tastes like BREXIT!

Not sure this is what you want (seemed pretty high) but it was spread over quite a large area tho' quite a few low hillocks as well - Col 285 Sector SH-B B14-3

Some semi-help for your quest (unless this one is known).

I stumbled across Outotz WX-O c20-2 2a.
This is all Horizons, can't tell you how it looks in Oddity. EDO doesn't run on my "potato good enough for 60 fps on ultra in EDH". Maybe it has retained some features, maybe not.

It is 60 ly from Outotz HD-J d9-3, one the crystal shard sites above Barnard's Loop.
So the next time you log into EDH for a raw material restock, you might want to consider this one for "transfer" back to the bubble.

For scale: The canyons you can see in the second image are around 10 km deep, the area on the right side of the second image is around 2 km deep.
