Well that's nice, I'm in Merope as I was trying to find some native wildlife yesterday. Didn't find any (well, found some, but no tentacles to shoot at) and logged off disappointed.
As the title says, i've been saving up some exploration data in case this worked and it does! (they did say they enabled other ways to gain rank other than crafting), so i had around 200 systems i could sell, somewhere in the neighborhood of 1-1.5mill in data so now i have grade 4 access!
The others might have something akin to felicity, maybe if you sell stolen goods to the dweller and bounties to Tod then maybe it'll work the same way?
As for felicity i imagine that to get grade 5 access i have to sell a couple of hundred more systems, maybe 300 or 400

Any of you guys know how long it takes to level farseer up through crafting the equipment? I'm wondering if i should go on an exploration jaunt instead of collecting materials for engines - I suspect i'll be doing alot of the latter so would prefer to break it up if possible.

We (my wife and I) had the same thing last night. Got to Flic, donated the MA, no cartography.
I logged back in this morning and it was there... Sold a measly 96k of data and got 3% into rank 2
Then my wife tried it and sold 104k of data only to get nothing 0% movement... hoping it is lag and it will catch up later as going for a "soontiil" is a bit of a pain given our play schedules.
EDIT: IT was lag, after making a couple of hyperspace jumps I got her to check the engineers panel and it has updated. Oddly to 92% so I got more progress for less cash value data. The old buzzard must be picky!

On the way from bubble to Maia and then to Felicity I earned 540.000 in exploring data.
This worked then for boosting up to Level 3 and some % with Felicity after I
- hand over the Meta-Alloy,
- closed game to main menue
- and started back in game (to see the UC entry in station menue).

If they can turn them in, I'd expect so.
The UI could use some updating, namely the part where the engineer says that your relationship will improve if you craft blueprints with them. I didn't notice that UC appeared at Farseer Inc either. Thanks for the tip, by the way!
It looks like it's slightly bugged. You have to unlock with a meta alloy and then either restart client or launch/land before you see the Cartographics option. When I first landed I fully intended to sell data but there was no option so I handed her an alloy, reloaded and there it was.
I don't see a bug report on it and frankly I'm not all that convinced it is a bug, just 'non obvious'. I guess it's a bug that you have to reload.

I think it's better that way, it'll prevent people from selling exploration data before they can actually gain reputation with the engineer.
