attitude to new players disgusting

my dad was playing in his sidewinder. apparently some guy just comes out of nowhere and 2hits him saying over comms "hahaha-hahaha- no*b"

this is a result of no-gamma-wipe and i've got to tell you i've even done it myself. it's just so damn easy to vapourise somebody in a sidewinder.

new players getting 1hit by anaconda/larger ships because FD doesnt understand why games start everyone on even ground. the reason is that someone can glitch his millions of credits and then come grief new people.

i told you so. should have wiped. i told you so. should have wiped. i told you so. should have wiped. i told you so. should have wiped. i told you so. should have wiped. i told you so. should have wiped. i told you so. should have wiped. i told you so. should have wiped. i told you so. should have wiped. i told you so. should have wiped.
Nothing to do with no wipe in Gamma, many new players have made millions since the 16th, I have made less than 1 million(my choice) , best advice for your dad is to play solo for now. Griefing in MMOs have been a problem since the first ever MMO.

A wipe won't stop that kind of attitude Avnas. Even if the game were reset these players race for the biggest ship.

There is however a method of controlling it which is part of the game design which as yet hasn't yet been investigated.
.... That is one of mass.

A small lightly armoured ship should in theory have less mass and therefore be able to make fast changes in vector and acceleration.
A larger more armoured machine with bigger engine and weaponry cannot make such quick direction changes or accelerate as quickly.

It seems all the ships in Elite fly at the same speed and are subject to the same physics regardless of the engine, armour, load and weapons.

For instance a volkswagen beetle fitted with a Mustang engine would probably rip its wheels off from a standing start.
A School Bus with a Mustang engine would probably struggle to accelerate fully loaded by drive reasonably well empty.
But a mustang with a volkswagen beetle engine would probably explode on take off, burn the clutch out or stall the engine.

These calculations could be made in the space station when changing loadout weapons etc before each launch or when cargo is gained or dropped, or fuel loaded. Then used as the physics for that specific ship.

In that case your father could have replied "Catch me if you can!" and vanished in his lightly armoured ship weaving like it was going out of business, while the pirate ship struggled to catch up or retain targeting.

There are other solutions to game bullies but they all require game design changes.

Electronic Counter Measures (basically Lock on / Radar Jamming) ...Smoke canisters (To prevent lasers and conceal direction changes). Cloaking systems.

I think Flares and chaff is already implemented.

A good pilot with little more than a 40k Eagle could just as easily very quickly ruin a new players day....bigger ship, more credits, is not necessarily the problem.

made billions trading rares
There should have been a wipe, a clean slate for us all.

Absolute rubbish !!!
I tested the rare trading in all the ships except the conda , and found that the python with around 286t of cargo space(kept a scoop too) was the best rare money maker at around 18M an hour, we had less than 60 hours of that rare trade bonanza. If you played non stop you would have made a billion,if that.

The "no wipe" was a thank you for our testing, sorry you didn't make it.

Bottom line is that the new player experience for this game is pretty lacking in just about every way. The wipe/no wipe debate is only a small part of this.

First impressions are everything with games these days and the ones that I've been seeing/hearing have been mixed at best. Frontier may not care because they've already got the cash, but how many players who bought this on release are going to recommend their friends pick it up? Probably not most of them.

I'm not blame slinging or anything, but there it is. A lot of people here on the forum and in this thread have been playing through the testing phases for months now and I believe have lost the ability to see this game through the eyes of a new player just starting out.

I only shoot noobs if they are invading my bounty hunting grounds. And when I shoot them, I just destory their engines. I hope they know about the self destruct button.

Come on cool down,
there is allready a baby seal protection party in the starter systems.

Just ask them for some free help and they will have fun blasting aggressors out of the sky.

Since in game communication is rather poor I would be amazed if a majority of players are aware of their protection party. Not everyone reads the forums.

I'm not sure what your dad was expecting and it's a shame he had this experience but...
If you don't want to meet this sort of player then NEVER play ANY game on an open server.
Play Solo or another game in solo mode!

--snip--
what the hell is he supposed to do?

i think starters should be put in their own bubble for the first few hours of play, not that everyone needs to be re-wiped now the game is out. i think it was a mistake not wiping it before, they're stuck with tonnes of glitched money in the game for instance.

There is already a "bubble" its called Solo or Group play. As others have said, play that until you get better ships & weapons, then when feeling competent enough to take on other ships change to open play...

Your dad has plenty of options to avoid this:
- in open: travel away from the starter zone. I'm guessing 10-15 jumps will suffice, but more are better
- play in solo until he's in a better ship and/or more comfortable

I personally have only ever experienced griefing like that twice since PB, which is something like a 4-5 month time period, maybe even more. I've lost track if time!

This is the result of a twit being a twit ('d have used far more appropriate but adult language if I was allowed) and not the lack of a wipe.

The post boils down to you sticking up for your Dad though in some sort of parental protection outburst, which I commend :p

i mention credits because what he described to me was being 1hit by plasma accelerators. what the hell is he supposed to do?

edit: i don't think i should calm down. he wasn't wanted, he had no cargo, he wasn't bumping into stuff, this guy was just a straight up griefer.

There is a bubble for as long as you want. It is called SOLO mode.
