Fiction Audible.com

I was looking through the audio book choices for the new Elite novels and noticed that most of them are CD only. Does anyone know if there are plans to publish them to Audible.com (sub-company of Amazon) or at least provide an mp3 version for download? Thanks in advance :)

Found the mp3's :) This post can be deleted...

The audio isn't finished yet of course, so it's pre-order only. Chris Jarvis is aiming to have them done in mid August. Stay tuned.

Cheers,

Drew.

As Drew said, they're available for pre-order only at the moment. Remember, if you pledged to the Fantastic Books kickstarter you may also be eligible for some of the audiobooks too (depending on your reward level naturally).

Of course if you want to buy them again i don't think anyone will complain ;)

Yeah, it took me awhile to find all of them. I will purchase them all when they come out. I have the Kindle version of the books from Amazon, but would rather listen to them while traveling back and forth to work...

Will there be audio book samples?

I would like to hear a bit before purchase!

I can't speak for the publisher but speaking as one of the authors It certainly makes sense to have audio samples, all the books on amazon have text samples, so the books should have audio samples. It would be great to have a sample of each of the anthology stories on the anthology website as well. I would be surprised if it hasn't already been considered.

Chris is working very hard on all the projects. I'm sure when he has samples ready he will provide them for the shop.

In the meantime, you can gauge his work by downloading the free audio drama series Escape Velocity.

Elite: Lave Revolution will be an audio drama in a similar vein, whereas the other books will be dramatised readings (with music).

You can get an idea of the music used by checking out my Soundcloud page as I'm composing work for all the books.

Audible is owned by Amazon, (where I bought all the Kindle versions). That is why I asked the question. Does anyone have an actual release date yet? I heard August, but that is about as detailed as I could find.

From recent Lave Radio podcast discussions, Chris is still hard at work producing the audio versions. It's proving to take longer than initially anticipated but the word is the quality promises to make the wait worthwhile
Just don't expect an audio release round the corner - It looks like we should currently expect a release sometime in December (EDIT : Link here) - and likely tied close to the eventual release date of Elite Dangerous itself

The audiobooks won't necessarily be verbatim copies of the written text either - in one particular case the presentation will be more that of an audioplay. In other cases the narrator will carry the story (Toby Longworth is renowned for his ability as a Master of many voices) but there may be small changes to better suit the audio format. To my understanding there will not be any "abridging" of the text in the classic (butchering ;) ) sense of the term

So my advice if you want to get stuck into the fiction right now then pick up one or several of the ebooks (or pre-order a physical copy). The anthology Tales from the Frontier contains some great short stories if you don't have time currently to commit to reading one of the novels.

When the audiobooks get released the experience should be significantly different to reading the written books and due to the time gap you'll hopefully have experienced the best of both worlds rather than (as was my personal original fear) spoiling the enjoyment of one format over another.
