Audio Masking Question

Just did an assassination with a G5 Executioner using the above mod. Should a long-range kill shot (out of sight of guards) give me a wanted status with the local faction?

There is nothing in game that can help you do a stealth kill.
You will always be wanted (unless you kill someone who has a bounty on his/her head or you kill someone at an anarchy settlement).

That's why I only do legal massacre missions. It's so hilarious that this is no PEGI16 problem ("legal" massacre), but having a zapper is.

PEGI 16 is fine with realistic violence. It's not havinga zapper, it is that the zapper creates the opportunity for what in PEGI-terms is called "violence against defenceless characters", which is why every NPC is armed and fights to the death. I don't know if PEGI 16 would allow for defenceless characters being immune to further violence though, but I would guess the point is not if there is a game mechanic to harm a defenceless character (or not), it is that you can execute said violence no matter what the mechanic.

I had a feeling that would be the case.

Audio Masking / Noise Suppressor are good only to do stealth kills - as in the settlement occupants are not alerted about your gunshot noises.
However, they will be alerted if they see the body or if the hear the projectile impact - but with no indication where the shot came out (ofc if you stay out of their sight)

An audio masked L-6 Rocket Launcher is a nice tool to make the settlement dwellers converge in a distant spot - they will all go to the impact site, and you may use the commotion to sneak in places that were heavily patrolled. However, if they see you while in alert mode (yellow marker on the radar) they will agro you - even tho 5 minutes later they ignore you jumping on their roofs

Yes. It's the omniscient police force again.

Worse, it's like an over complicated version of what we encounter in ships.

Ships - take out a Wanted target, but wait for the scanner to show the wanted status, everything is fine. If not, you will get fines and/or bounties.
Foot - Passive scan isn't enough. You need to use that short range hand scanner, equivalent to a kill warrant scanner, to scan the target. If you do this, and the target is wanted, you can kill them and not become wanted. However, if anyone nearby sees this, they will become hostile (unlike in space).

So if you're going to take out a legally sanctioned (aka their wanted) target at a non-anarchy station, you'll need to do a hand scanner scan of them first to determine that wanted status. Worse, you need to do this out of their line of sight, or they will go hostile and immediately open fire once you discover they are wanted.

Again, while I think the difference is dumb from a lore perspective (why is it easier to kill wanted ships than a wanted person on the ground?), it does make it kind of fun. Kind of like flipping out a badge and telling them they're bound by law... and then you shoot them, old west style.

If the target isn't wanted, your screwed. Just kill them however you can and deal with become wanted. Try not to kill anyone else, as it only takes 2 or 3 kills to get a 1 in notoriety.

I really wish they would've gone with whatever PEGI rating would allow us to stun characters and then carry/move their bodies. Oh how satisfying it would be do have a bounty target and the ability to stun then and bring them back ALIVE.

I also wish you could move bodies so as to prevent other NPCs finding them and being alerted. That would've made ground missions more fun.

I understand why they did what they did, but I think they should've taken the leap...
