Audio Quality / stereo and surround

Hi Guys,
The current sound is lacking envelopment, sure there are sounds coming from all speakers, but no matter where they are placed, there is no "Sence"of being in the center of the action, and having been involved in homecinema setting up for the last 10 years or so, it is very noticeable.

second thing, the music currently in the game is good, but it would be nice to be able to replace the music with personal choices.

I would also like to see full set of audio adjustment for all voices and sound effect, this has been mentioned several times,

lastly The audio needs to be of a higher quality, currently it sound like an AM radio..........

Cheers Peter

Well...it sounds pretty good on my 7.1 set up. Ships fly by and I can pin point where they are, planets whizz by in supercruise and fade off behind me, the music is good and as for personal preferences, turn the ingame music off and load your own up. I downloaded a load of epic space stuff from YouTube and it fits in nicely. Come 2.4 I'll be reverting back to game music for those lovely atmospheric scores.

Sound adjustment of the srv engine is the only one I want a slider for...it's too loud.

What set up have you got (surround).

I disagree with the OP's position - there is a very real sense of position in the audio from my 5.1 THX system - I look forward to enhancements in 2.4 but there is no way you could criticize the audio as being of "low quality" or "like an AM radio" - the audio in the game has even been nominated for awards.

Elite: Dangerous | BAFTA British Academy Games Awards 2017
  • Nomination for Best Evolving Game Award

Elite: Dangerous | Develop Awards 2015
  • Nominated for best audio accomplishment

Elite: Dangerous | Golden Joystick Award 2015 September 2015
  • Nominated for "Best Audio"

I don't like to say it but maybe user experience is limited by equipment (not likely judging by their post) or perhaps it is an excessive level of expectation?

P.S. I too think the SRV engine noise it too loud and the wavescanner audio level control should be made independent of the sound effects volume slider.

I think we agree to dis-agree, I admit my choice of words could have been a little"Not so harsh" ,
with the comments you guys have given me, I tend to think maybe there is an issue elsewhere in the chains, I doubt it, have covered every section of the audio chain and found everything is working fine.
Is there a site i can go to and hear the game, maybe a post on you tube or something similar, that would help me with comparison .

audio card is a creative Z series, in the red case, 7700K, graphics 1080 ti, 16 gig ram, sound system 1 is a logitec z 680 thx surround, system 2, is a high end dolby, dts, system 7.1, emo power amps, denon processor , emo UMC 1 processor , Krix speakers

Ahh see, I'm no specialist on pc based surround sound. All those drivers and options and stuff lol

I'm old school with a Pioneer VSX 1122, 7.1 Q Acoustics 2010i's. You just turn it on and bam...I prefer abit of raw power lol

I'd likely pin the blame on Creative's awful drivers. I'm so glad I ditched my Creative Labs card. As of Windows vista, the way sound drivers have worked changed completely, making the extra drivers that Creative required a hinderance rather than a help. Sure, you can get some nice extra effects added to your sound output, but what they do to games and auto-detect features in music/sound production applications is nothing short of shocking.

If you can borrow a set of those 5.1 USB headphones that have their own drivers built-in, or just try using the onboard sound from your motherboard with the default windows "High-Definition Audio Device" drivers (not even the Realtek driver stack) - then you'll probably find that 7.1 works fine in Elite. I play on a good quality set of 2.0 studio monitors (Presonus Eris E8) run off a separate, driverless USB DAC and use the virtual headphone surround in Elite's options - it sounds good to me. In the other room I use a cheap Samsung 5.1 package that matches my TV and play in true 5.1 surround but the lower quality of the satellite speakers means that I prefer the virtual headphone surround on the high-end speakers.

I use a Logitech Speaker System Z906 - that's a 5.1 THX system (probably a more recent version of yours?). I directly connect the 5.1 audio outputs from my Asus Maximus VIII Hero motherboard to the 5.1 inputs on the sub-woofer / amp - I don't use the fibre-optic link, all the decoding is handled on the PC. The audio section of the MOBO is reputed to be very good.

This is the first "mini" system I have ever used for surround, my main audio equipment uses Mission speakers (Denon amp previously, now just an Onkyo AVRx) and I was not expecting such good performance from the much smaller speakers on this PC system (previously I just had a 2.1 system on the PC - the Logitech was a revelation).

I don't know where you might be having issues, to me the game's audio is crisp and clear, nothing like "AM radio quality" and I hear definite positional variance. How does it compare for you to other things on your computer - like movies for example? Another thing is how do the different audio settings in the game seem to you - like normal, full range and boost?

Hi guys, So, When your at a station and there is background chatter, Not main chatter, but other pilots talking to the control tower (i Guess), you guys are telling me it is crystal clear, nothing like an am radio?

Well that is supposed to sound like that. Normal comms and the station announcements are not distorted, it is just the background comms chatter that is stuck in there for "atmosphere", deliberately made to sound like that for effect.

You get a similar effect on the ATC voice when you exceed the no-fire zone, the volume drops (fades) and a trace of "interference" is mixed in.

Actually me too been looking for such an option (environmental sound/surround) in audio settings but was unable to. This would be good. The sounds are amazing itself in this game so it is sad that there's no possibility of such an option.
