Australia DLC. Animals + Fauna = greatest wish

Hi there,

as many others me and my girlfriend would love to have an Australia DLC.

Imagine Platypus and Wallabees/Kangaroos for Walkthrough habitats.

Red Kangaroos, Koalas and Wombats to have in great habitats. These animals are a "must be" i think

For exhibits there are plenty of typical australian creatures... (Blue Tongue, Red Back Spider,...) the poison gallery :D

Plus great australian fauna stuff.
I mean it's a complete continent. That could be an awesome dlc.

Greetings from germany

Fauna means Animals. I think you meant Flora which means Plants.
I also would like some Marsupials and other Australian Animals in the Game. But I think the Koala could be a bit difficult to implement because they are on Trees almost all the time. But I hope we will get them because I would absolutely love Koalas

Koalas wouldn’t be difficult to implement, you would just need to make them sleep and give them an appropriate tree and climbing enrichment item/shelter they can cling to and sleep for a long time.

I really believe that an Australian DLC would be incredibly lacking if it didn’t have a koala. It would make building Australian zoos or fauna parks with any kind of realism impossible for a start.

By the way, if any moderators are about, there are now at least five - I think - threads about an Australia DLC and possible content. Maybe they should be merged or at least new ones shouldn’t be opened now.

While I agree that I would love to see the koala in-game (if they could do it in Zoo Tycoon 2 I don't see why it should be impossible in Planet Zoo), I don't think it's necessary for realism. Koala are not as widespread in captivity as you might think. Sure, they're a fixture of Australia's zoos, but there are very few captive populations compared to some other species.

I still want them but they're not a deal-breaker for me.

I’m aware of how many there are in captivity. My point is that a realistic Australian zoo on the whole would need koalas. A realistic Australian section or enclosure outside of Australia wouldn’t need koalas. But it would need emus and a kangaroo or wallaby species.

My concern is that an Australia DLC should allow us to have as realistic selections as possible. I just hope it reflects what is actually in zoos as much as possible rather than a random selection of cool Australian animals with key iconic species missing.

So I love cassowaries but emus are more important to me because they are so common in zoos. Obviously I’d love them both and more but I think an Australia DLC really needs koala, a kangaroo species, emu and either wombat or Tasmanian devil - if it’s limited to four species.

My main concern is around the exhibit animals. There are just so many that comprise Australia's fauna, choosing just one (if it follows the same pattern as the South America Pack) seems futile.

I agree that covers Australia's most iconic "mega"-fauna and are probably the most demanded and expected species...

However by your your own "request" the lineup would be more along the lines of red kangaroo, a wallaby species, emu, and probably a second wallaby species, to fill all those ubiquitous "australian walkabouts"

Unfortunately Frontier seems to show absolutely no inclination to consider reality (i.e. what species are actually held in captivity) when selecting species for the game. Thus such bizarre inclusions as the Himalayan brown bear, Formosan black bear, Lesser Antillean iguana (if we needed a second iguana, couldn't we at least get an interesting species like Fiji banded, Blue, Rhinoceros?), Brazilian Wandering Spider, West African lion...

They also show no inclination to choose likely, iconic, or well-thought representatives of the area they choose to exhibit. Dall sheep? Not an arctic inhabitant. While the game could use some alpine species, there inclusion in the Arctic pack was just bizarre. They're also pretty obscure in captivity, and I am pretty sure never requested by anyone. Conversely, the arctic fox is highly demanded (for some reason). Muskox would have been another appropriate choice.
I hated the South American pack. First they really needed to pick a theme rather than try to represent an entire continent with 4 animals. We have one species from the Andes, one from the cerrado, and one from far Northern Colombia (couldn't they at least pick an Amazon primate). Not enough animals to make a themed area for anywhere. And llama did they really have to waste a spot on a domestic animal? Plus the red-eyed tree frog isn't even from South America
