Australian Game Review Show "Good Game" rates ELITE low?

On Australian TV "Good Game" is a highly respected Game-review show hosted by "Bajo" and "Hex" his female companion.
Bajo rated Elite correctly at 4 out of 5 but his partner, Hex only gave it 2.5, so ELITE got a crummy 7.5 out of 10 when it should have been an 8 or 9 like all the other reviews.
The reason for this was given by Hex as "The game does not reward enough", and, "It took me a WHOLE TEN MINUTES to fly to another station!"
Well hex, sorry 'bout your impatience but this is not an easy game for kiddies and there is no Paywall so everything you get in Elite you will have to work for and that takes time.
To play the game for a few hours and ONLY use Bounty Hunting, not once did you try Mining, Exploring or most important Trading and then give this AAA title a low score because you didn't get what you wanted quickly enough smacks of unprofessionalism.
I urge you all to write to Good Game and register your displeasure at Elite being dealt with so shallowly and unfairly.

Why should it have? Do you really think elite in it's current form actually justifies the glowing reviews it got? seriously a 9/10?

"It took me a WHOLE TEN MINUTES to fly to another station!"

You shouldn't have to watch a show or read a book while playing the game - there are plenty of times when there is nothing to do while in SC except something other than the game which you bought to be entertained by

play the game for a few hours and ONLY use Bounty Hunting, not once did you try Mining, Exploring or most important Trading and then give this AAA title a low score because you didn't get what you wanted quickly enough

Do you feel that having the reviewers doing the menial tedium of mining and trading would give the game a better review?

Everyone has their own opinion on different games.

The person complaining about travel time, obviously likes fast instant action games. I wonder how they would rate flight simulator? (IT TOOK ME 2 HOURS TO FLY TO ITALY! 1/10)

All reviews are subjective. You can't really complain about them. One person might like one thing, another might not.
I personally love Elite, and no Aussie TV show will change that.

An 8 or 9 is outlandish for this game right now and an insult to games that DO deserve it. This game is a shell at the moment and the newer reviews are now showing the worts of the game. Solid platform on which to build upon but not an 8 or 9 score. Maybe in a year or so. Game is too easy right now and very little to do. It's been well discussed even by review sites. For some the little content and pretty graphics are enough but for the larger gaming audience it is not. All the hand holding and you need an imagination arguments are well past their due date and have grown tiresome. Time to put the sand in the sandbox, furniture in the house, water in the pool etc. etc. and then it can get a higher score.

Really ?!
Get a grip on yourself. People are entitled to an opinion whether it agrees with yours or not.
And frankly a 7.5/10 isn't that low for a game that has a lot of issues but shows long term promise if FDEV deliver. People will know I'm no White Knight here but grow up, there are plenty of other reviews and blog critiques that are worse than this that point out its flaws and good points in equal measure.
"I urge you to"....lay off the Coke Life next time you post.

Hex really like easy games. He rated Minecraft 9 out of 10 (different rating system back then). No surprise he rated that low on Elite.

It takes much longer to fly to a great many stations than ten minutes. Elite got lucky there that he picked a relatively close one. - IF Elite even cares about their review, which I wouldn't

One could very easily spend their 1-hour gaming session in a night in nothing but super-cruise. Just cruising. Which, like some previous posters pointed out may make it more realistic using their analogies of flying in real life to Italy and Australia. Which is cool, for those posters I hope they make a game that is even more realistic and have a trip to Mars from Earth take them 6 months. Just flying for 6 months. Nothing else, just staring at their screen so they can enjoy their realistic game. Others may not want a game based 1000 years in the future to mimic real life - I think those who did this review may fall into that category.

Don't know if it is that relevant to add the stars awarded and come up with an aggregate score.

The show changed the scoring system to 1 to 5 stars in an attempt to avoid people adding the score or doing some meta score comparison.

I think they tried to explain their change to the star rating system in the first show this year.

I read the review (discussion between Bajo/Hex) in the link in the OP, and I must say that I think they absolutely nailed it. They mention clearly the main pros and the cons of this game. It IS a big commitment in time to do well in this game, it will take many many hours. For some this is a delightful prospect, for others it is a waste of time. Opinions vary, which is absolutely normal.

I enjoy this game but would definitely not rate it more than 6/10. It's mainly just a shell of what it should be. It's got a long way to go to ever rate a 9.

I agree with the lower score. After playing for many many hours I'm just not really willing to log in because I know I'll spend an hour just finding something to do and then it's another hour to make up for any "mistake".

I find the "meat" of the game to be delicious but it has taken the waiter two hours to bring me my meal.

Hopefully QOL changes are in the works (like the lowered repair costs) regarding missions and payouts and just general game enjoyment.

I joined this game for an MMO style experience in space.

nothing about this game is MMO. No large factions to improve upon, no direct conflict amongst clans/groups/guilds/whatever you want to call it, no significant progression outside of trading (which bears no variable consequence on anything else) and most importantly, nothing that promotes cohesion with more than a few other players (which isn't even in game yet).

What I was hoping for was something like Eve, in the sense of large conflict. I just can't see how this game will scale with player interaction / battling / trading each other for the benefit of their group / colony / corporation that will make it an MMO, and remove the solo aspect of it.

I've included my projection that I feel Frontier would benefit from when they are looking for outside investment.

We're all here out of faith, nostalgia or both. For someone without either, 7.5 out of ten is very generous.

It ain't there yet, but it could be.

I found myself agreeing with every point that Bajo and Hex made to be honest.
Also i didn't know people took review scores that serious. Write a letter of complaint? seriously?

Review scores are always very subjective.
Hex pointed out some short comings, and didn't fall in love with the game. Hence the lower score.
In all honesty, when i watched the review i thought it was a very fair review, highlighting the good and bad points.
Reviews (to me at least) are about reading the negatives, and seeing if you can live with those negative points and still enjoy the experience for what it is. and i agree with the above points, 6.5/10 is actually a pretty decent score, think about it, it scored 65% of the possible imaginary points made up by the time of review.

Nobody should take review scores any more seriously than some other random person's opinion in the forums.

Because, like the random opinions in the forums, one reviewer is looking for one thing, and another is looking for something else. Anyone who reads the forums for more than 3 minutes will note that there's considerable division of opinion about games, including ED in particular. Some people want a grind-fest, other people want a PVP-fest, other people want a carebear camp, other people want ironman heaven. Some people even want EVE or World of Warcraft with spaceships. All those wants influence opinions and reviews.

Know what a reviewer is? A bloke just like the rest of us, except with a weekly column to fill.

Dude, Hex is a girl.

Elite isn't for everyone.

I prefer to keep their scores separate.
She gave it 2.5/5
He gave it 4/5

Two reviewers two different scores.

No offense, but GG isn't really a quality review show - its more aimed at kids than offering a decent critique of a game.

Either way as others have said its their view and obviously not a game for everyone (think we already know that though).
