Auto Cannons - what happened to those?

If you still remember that Capital Ship trailer, you may notice there is a weapon used by all four Sidewinders but was never introduced into Elite Dangerous. Auto Cannons, that seem to be something between Multicannons (low damage, high rate, a lot of ammo) and Cannons (piercing damage, low rate and minimal ammo capacity).

Is there any reason why Auto Cannons never found their way into game?

Well, to be fair, there's an awful lot in that video that hasn't been implemented in-game. Notably:
- Player-NPC wings
- Audio interaction with NPCs
- Heavy missile batteries on a Farragut capable of one-salvo-disabling a Majestic.
- A scenario where a wing of four Sidewinders is in any way considered optimal or useful in a capital ship CZ situation.

I do find it interesting that the Imperial Fighter did eventually make it into the game, pretty much in the same shape as we see in that video; they seem to have had the design of those things worked out long before we actually saw them implemented in-game.

They wanted to be called Rapid Cannons, and moved to live in CQC, next door. I hear they are happy, spend no weapon distributor, and have good range while can be evaded.
