Auto Field Maintenance potentially reinvigorated by Engineers update

Cant help but wonder if these generally overlooked modules (except by explorers) will start to be taken seriously by people engaged on the PVP side of things.

With players packing weapons that target and disable modules, the need to repair such modules on the fly becomes a potential life saver.

Currently they repair rather slowly, but I wonder if there will be an engineer out there who can make them repair quicker?

Can't see how it would be a lifesaver, each module still needs to be completely shut down whilst undergoing repairs. Even a faster repair will still leave you vulnerable in a combat situation. Reboot is the primary quick restart method, even then it's pretty useless when under fire.

Repairing thrusters to low percentages with the AFMU is way faster and does not
force you to totally shutdown/deactivate shields and deactivate turret-defense/etc.

However i don't think it will be a major impact on performance leaving out the AFMU,
since we cannot generate rules like:
When engines = 0% integrity -> AFMU repair them to 5% and stop

Ah, I just did a search, was not aware the devs changed the AFMU to repair destroyed systems. Previously you had to reboot to 1% before using the AFMU.

Mind linking the article stating so?
I am not sure they repair destroyed modules other than canopy though,
it is late here;)

Originally they didn't repair destroyed modules. A post on reddit linked me to this video, he repairs his thrusters from 0%

As far as I'm aware the AFMU still can't repair a destroyed canopy, only a damaged canopy.

I've never managed to get reboot to work. I once rebooted 20 times in a row and it didn't work (my assailant then returned and finished me off). How many times do you usually reboot before it works for you?

And while we're on the subject, why do you have to reboot the entire ship - losing shields and everything - in order to try to get (say) the thrusters working again?

You reboot when the engines and/or the powerplant are at 0% integrity.
It then takes health from other modules and repairs those modules.
If you have not got enough emergency oxygen left the sequence is cancelled,
without repair.

Usually it should take a single try,
unless your assailant just keeps firing at your engines,
it should fix the issue.
