Horizons 2.0 patch notes

- The cockpit canopy can now be repaired by the AFM

My wingmate had a completely blown canopy whilst exploring once. His life support counter was going down. He fully repaired his wide open canopy with an AFM.

Right, since this would be very important to us if true, I just tested this and it is not true. One of our top pilots just blew the canopy out of my FDL with a single rail shot, leaving it listed as 0% health and smashed. I attempted to repair it with my AFMU and it absolutely would not repair. So when it says "The canopy can now be repaired", what it means is "if it's not completely broken".

This....I can't stress how much this.....

I've screwed up three times or so whilst in SC, deciding to browse through the modules to see how things are going.....
"Oooh... I'll just give that a little repair...." BANG "...Oh.... yeah...."

Ha ha, exactly, which is why I said "for what it's worth". The first time is the worst as you're probably all relaxed and feeling good/smug for fitting the repair module. The second and third times are lessons that you have to learn yourself.

..and again this....

Isn't there some definition of insanity that refers to making the same mistakes again and again....
...That'll be me then....

Wait, so you're saying if my canopy is completely gone and I'm venting atmo the AFMU will repair that?

No, it will only repair the canopy as long as you have some % remaining. When its totally gone (0%) that's it, you are on the timer until you dock or die.

Brilliant. Thanks for all the info. I'll fit the biggest i can. It puts me over my power plant capacity but I'll keep it off until i need it. I'm a careful pilot but you never know whats gonna happen when I'm a few thousand lightyears away.
Thanks

What you will find is that you will really want the best grade one (A grade over E grade every time) as the higher the grade the more ammo and the more ammo the more repairs...
If you are going to take a super long exploration trip (read this as longer than 3 - 6 months) then you might want 2 AFMU's, one small and one larger one, that way they can repair each other...

I am not too far from beagle point on my DWE journey and I am currently at 83% on my AFMU (I only brought 1 with me) and by the time I reach beagle point I will have been exploring for a bit over 3 months... and then the return journey I suspect will take much much longer, maybe another 5 - 6 months... so I am kinda kicking myself for not bringing a second AFMU.

One secret with AFMU modules - turn them off when not in use... saves a shedload of power.
As others have said, do not repair FSD or Thrusters while in SC, drop to normal space or when you are landed on a planet and do it then.

Another tip, do not repair your shields just before decending to land on a planet unless you prepare to let them recharge before landing.

Always check the planets gravity before attempting to land on them and be careful when landing on planets over 2G as it is really easy to land too hard and take substantial hull damage, I had to head back early on my voyage due to just that problem with only a few percent hull left...

I took an AFMU with me on my last couple of long journeys. I've been wondering about there effectiveness since then because they can't repair your hull nor your power plant, which seem to go down in proportion with all your other modules, i.e. having a 100% canopy is not much use when your PP is about to expire. How much repair can you actually do until it becomes a lost cause?

You would be hard pressed to find anyone who has ended up with a critical power plant during a long trip. the PP is extremely tough when it comes to heating or emergency drops, damage from weapons is the main issue.

My personal opinion is that the AFMU is essential mainly for the FSD. A faulty FSD is no fun when thousands of LY's from a repair facility, damaged thrusters is also a major hassle. Hull damage is manageable, even at very low levels, just requires caution while you limp home.

A broken FSD (below 85%) causes false starts, even worse it can randomly drop you out of SC causing further damage to itself and other modules.
