Auto Field Mantenance Units Stackable?

I've noticed that you can fit multiple Auto Field Maintenance units onto a ship. Does anyone know if they stack or by fitting two do you get twice as much 'maintenance' out of them (ie do they last twice as long)?

Sadly I can't answer your question as I haven't used them yet, myself - I'm actually curious how they work as well. Is it really automatic, or do we have to trigger it like a shield cell? What kind of damage does/doesn't it repair? I heard people saying that thrusters and FSD can't be repaired, so what do they do? Just repair general hull integrity?

Yes they're stackable. I have 3 fitted to my ship. They repair certain subsystems but crucially (among a few others) not thrusters or hull. To repair you go onto your modules screen and click on the module you want repairing.

From my experience you don't really need them if you're not planning on deep space exploration that will see you away from the nearest outposts for days or weeks. After about 10,000 light years in a Cobra I began using mine as subsystems had degraded by about 20% due to heat damage and the odd supercruise exit at too fast a speed. But that was in gamma, before wear and tear.

Now with wear and tear they may have more relevance, but again only if you're planning ultra long trips.

Thanks for the replies guys :)
.
Erimus, that's exactly what I'm planning; a long expedition into deep space. It would have been a bit of a pain to equip 2 or 3 and find out 5,000LY out there that they don't stack after all
.
I think I'll be fitting 3 on my trip into the great unknown
.
Cheers :)
