Auto launch bugs

I realy wish they would fix the autolaunch bug for larges ships. Most of the time it just slams my Cutter into the Bulkhead repeatatly and can not find the slot. I read is mainly effects large ships wih enginered thrusters. It seem that the auto launch can only use your forwards and reverse thrusters and not your up and down ones autoland has no such problems. Then the other day Auto launch DId find the slot but unfortunatly tehre was a NPC Beulga coming through so we both got stuck.

Use the regular docking computer, not the advanced docking computer. The regular one only handles arrivals, not departures; the advanced docking computer does both.

Or treat the AP like real pilots do; it's a tool to reduce workload, and has to be monitored. The backup and error-correction system is you. 😉

I only use the docking for coming in to land by this point. Exiting a station isn’t something it’s much good at unless there is absolutely no traffic.

I set the computer to only do the landing sequence now, after slaving control away from it on takeoff often enough because its pathing got screwed by a DBX or DBS coming through the slot.

Also, can we please ban NPCs from ever flying Belugas or Type 9s anywhere near a station ever again. It might make Jaques Station actually fun to visit instead of a gigantic nightmare consisting of 5 gazillion Belugas all spawned there because of the god knows how many tourist beacons around it.

Another data point in favour of my hypothesis that it's the Cutter in particular that doesn't play nice with the Auto Launch function. I've been using Auto Launch with my Type-10 without any problems at all.

That's OK, a lot of Odyssey surface stations are effectively off-limits to me in in my favoured vessel, because its so ridiculously fat that its wingtips intrude into nearby trespass zones.

I only use the auto-launch when I want to step away for a minute. Otherwise, I apply enough throttle to disengage, line up, and boost out. That works 95% of the time, the other 5% is expensive. It's fun for me either way (I don't risk it with cargo).

My station and outpost docking is pretty much the same. I let it do it all if I need to step away. If I don't, I fly in fast and stop short enough for the computer to touch down.

I never let the computer auto-dock until I've verified it works with the current ship and station type.

This is not a bug. As was already stated, any auto-fly device still needs to be monitored. It's the smart pilot's job to make sure the dumb computer doesn't screw up.

I had no idea that was an option. Amazing!
I'm not sure when I realized again, but at some point as I was moving cargo(or evacuees from a Thargoid invaded system) with a Python, I noticed it in the ship tab under one of the options with the advanced computer. Taking off from an outpost, surface port or carrier with it set to landing only saves you a few seconds, but with a Cutter in any big orbital port, it's quite useful.

Yes, with 4.0/Odyssey bugs have made auto-launch very unreliable, often completely failing to go through the mailslot. We're heading towards Odyssey's second anniversary and unfortunately there are no fixes in sight.

The thing is if it can find the slot on the way in it Should be able to find the slot on the way out and not bang the wall near the roof. A working auto launch would help because larger npc ships like belugas anf type 10s respect no right of ways. I have had a clear slot when some other large ship decided it wanted to go through the slot either from the front or behind After i was already partially through the slot and we both got stucj. Not to mention the suicidal sidewinders. Auto launch and dock is unfortunately the closest thing we have to air trafic control. Btw boostsing into the slot in a cutter with any type of drift is an easy way to crash your ship

I used to use the docking computer, and supercruise assist. I got into ax and decided I needed the slots for module reinforcements.

Once you ditch them, everything feels a lot more fun. The actual mechanics of docking and SC are pretty straightforward after a while. Also, everything is faster. But making a cup of tea is a little more of a gamble now.

Ditch the assists. Fly dangerous.

Cutter auto launch issues have been around since auto launch was added to ED long before Odyssey or even Horizons 4.0. I turn off auto launch when leaving an orbiting station especially in Open mode with other live players. I also turn off auto dock when arriving at a rescue ship as it can be even sillier.

Either way with experience it is pretty easy to manually dock a Cutter then back to the full ADC with a ship that works with it. Options like auto land an Asp Explorer, Diamondback Explorer, Krait Mk II etc on a very rough terrain planet comes in handy at times.

Of course in a Cobra Mk III I find it a lot more fun to always dock manually maybe with a stylish 360 roll before sitting down on the landing pad. :)

Actually, having made a goodly number of automated launchings and docking over the past couple of days, I have noticed a tendency for it to start playing up if the ED window isn't in focus. It can start drifting towards the docking bay wall next to access corridor as if its forgotten where it is.

Is it the ship itself that gets tresspassing or have you installed a ship kit? I had same problem with my cutter and ship kits.

My Cutter with auto launch likes to mess up even if I don't tab to another window. I think it's mostly down to its complete inability to handle other traffic coming/going through the mail slot. I've had it try to bonk the nose into the space above or below just because some tiny ship passed through it in front of me, or came in, with no other outgoing or incoming traffic present.

I agree auto launch from large orbital stations for cutter should be fixed. It is annoying, and best turned off. It works fine for my corvette, except when there is a queue and it makes my corvette bob back & forth often bumping into stuff. Not sure why the ship can't just sit still and wait its turn. Maybe sometimes it needs to make room for an incomming ship, but not usually. Often I just override and pilot it out myself.

I generally like the auto launch because it saves me a few moments selecting my destination while my ship is automatically getting ready to leave, then I manually override.

Obviously auto dock & launch works good with open style landing pads. Surface stations and fleet carriers.

auto launch crap !!!
and no fix..... since a long time...
lost my cutter full of gold while auto launch fires me straight up in another landing pad...deep into the texture...no way out zapp 30M credits zapp
