Auto mining machines

If I recall correctly from playing Frontiers you could buy an automated mining rig which you could drop off at any planet etc and leave it to move be for you then you come back at a later date home in on it's beacon and pick up the goods.They could apparently be stolen by pirates etc but I never found out because I could never find the things when I went back to get them.

I think such a thing would be an excellent addition to the game and something for pirates to steal as well.

On the theft thing ,that would mean you would need a means to defend the rig while you are gone so maybe be able to buy your own skimmers as well?

So many possibilities.....

They were called MB4 mining machines in Frontier Elite 2, there have been a lot of requests for them to become player accessible in Elite Dangerous. In essence there are two existing mining machine models in the game just now, there are a stack of the BIGGER ones at one of the engineers bases (is it Elvira Martuk?) and the smaller models often pop up in randomly spawning settlements when roaming in an SRV. But yeah, giving players access to deploying mining machines, plus skimmers and turrets and landing pads and damn, its a whole new branch for the game.
