Auto pilot

It would be really useful if you could engage auto pilot for a 19ly SC flight. I have to do these alot due to my play style and it is probably gonna get h8 so fire away

I am still waiting for my troop of elephants; to carry my ship across the station and slip it gently out the mail slot.

Why 19ly?

We don't need the game playing it self. It just take a little common sense to fly 19k ls. What about PvP or npc interdiction and such.

19Ly is not 19k Ls.

It's actually more like 599 million Ls.

Given that the distance to Hutton Orbital is 6,784,404 ls and takes around 80 minutes to travel, travelling 19Ly in supercruise would take around 118 hours.

Gripping stuff, with or without an autopilot. [where is it]

Make it such that autopilot only works in real space or in systems with functional nav beacons. Compromised beacons would therefore land one in a prepared trap.

Well my opinion is that we should be able to upgrade the Docking Computer to a Navigation Computer.

The Navigation Computer could Plot and Track our route, notify us if there is a fuel or other issue, we need to
attend to, and give us options to decide, our plan of action.

The Navigation Computer would take care of Docking, Takeoff, and both System travel, and multi System Jumps.
It would be a basic Tool to help get from point A to point B, while allowing us to divert our attention to the Adventure of the Game,
rather than the wash on wash off monotone, putting us to sleep now.

At this point, I know there will be some that want to use this as an excuse to whine about Flying Skill, or some such nonsense.
The point being, there is no Flying while in Frame Shift Drive anyway, and when finished with the jump, it is just
a matter of pulling away from the Sun and pointing toward a Docking Station or another Jump point.

Sorry but this is not about a skill set, it is more to do with a Real World, Time Consuming Sink of Boredom,
which can be easily avoided by Allowing us time to plan our Strategies, and enjoy the ride.
We can be doing something enjoyable, like listening to music and watching the sights as we fly by.

Hey it has been proven that attention span lasts about 2-3 min on average.
Which is why TV Commercials are timed within that boundary, Anything more than that causes boredom and frustration.

As for an Emergency situation, a basic Red Alert response could be set, like prepare for combat, or collision Alert,
in order to avoid a face palm into a Sun, or other object.
This would Allow us a margin of time to take over, and deal with the situation.

Finally I see this being the same, as the difference between one flying a Sidewinder and another a Anaconda,
if you earned the credits to buy it, you have earned the right to have a choice to use it or not.
YOUR CHOICE BECAUSE IT IS ON YOUR TIME.

As for me, I would like the opportunity to enjoy the scenery, play with the camera, listen to music and make my plans.

Hay Spacegamejunkie If you want a game to play it self. Then there no real reason to play the game. I looking at your idea and it caters to Macros and gold sellers. I can see it now. Player set 1,000 ly course. Jump to each system scan using a macro to refill then jump to the next system. Set the galaxy map for stars that has fuel. Gold sellers would advertise hay we level a exploration rank plus so many credits.

I see you have put a lot of thought into this Idea and have come up with some new Farming Ideas.
Good for You, [hotas]

LOL, not this again... why even login if you want the game to play itself? Upgrade the docking computer to a navigation computer? Just go back to watching TV, I hear Expanse will substitute for Elite.

I think there is more to the Game than just going from point A to point B, which is the only thing that would make this a "play itself" proposition.

I do not understand why some think an Idea is a pendulum situation of all to the left or all to the right,
which gives them the OK for, Do it my way or No way.

It may be a sign of watching Too Much TV:eek:

OR I have seen One person having many accounts, so that they can Pat themselves on the back, what an Ego :O

No autopilots, thanks. Like they said, I don't the game playing by itself either. You've got to do it yourself.

Well, that is not a your personal Elite Dangerous yep?

Hey David, ill pay you all what you see here for autopilot:

Just because i want. Tell me a price, and where to pay you. 20$k.? 50$k.? Not a problem, just tell. Also It can be like an official investment for your company. Just contact me. ;)

@Lestat, dont tell "we don't need". Because that is you (and few other guys don't need autopilot feature) opinion. But as i told above - that is don't your personal game. Don't wanna autopilot? Well, just don't use them. What is your problem?

Generally, in my vision, everyone should be able to play as he want. Someone like you, bought this game, same, and wanna play this game as he want. Don't tell to others how they should play this game.

Autopilot thing should be implemented on this game. Use them or nope - it's a users choice. If you wanna be "a true hardcore player" just dont use them. If you are casual player - well it will be usefull.

This is a legitimate question as the original Elite - Frontiers did have Autopilot, I used it all the time.

Actually, I'd go a bit further: Autopilot that's only limited by your fuel reserves.

What I'm thinking is this: once we have space legs and can walk around our ships, I'd very much like to be able to wander round the ship and do stuff. I'm not exactly sure what yet... Maybe inspect the cargo, check GalNet, feed the ship's cat, review exploration records, update my log, read the codex/wiki, gaze out the window admiring the majesty of deep space... But you know, the archetypal captainy stuff...

Followed by a panicked rush back to the cockpit when you hear the 'Interdiction detected' warning.

That's because the game was flipping impossible without it. Lol

Flying from a star to destination in ED is incredibly easy. Making it even easier is kinda pointless.

One thing that did *kind of* bug me was hyperspacing over and over. There's very little gameplay between jumps on normal travel, it's just a series of (very fancy) loading screens.
Many of us have done the math, and pre-2.2, you'd only spend 3-5 seconds actually flying per jump, which took between 45-60 seconds. The rest is waiting for the FSD, the count down, and hyperspace itself.
It used to bug me, but since the recent speed up of Hyperspace, it doesn't.

Kinda forgotten my point now. So I'll leave it at that. :p

Suggested that myself before.

Spacelegs basically needs a hyperspace autopilot.
Although, they need to fix the vanishing-body -in-hyperspace issue first, or it won't be spacelegs, it'll just be Spacehead.

Which coincidentally is my name. :D
