Auto UNdock

Seriously now, WHY does the autodocking module NOT include exiting the space station? There's been PLENTY of time to include this! If the module can fly me into the station without crashing, it can fly me out without crashing.

I was past the point of return exiting a station and right in the middle of the mail slot, an Orca decides to come in.

So now I'm wedged in the exit after the cruiseliner blindly pushes it's way in, I'm getting trespassing warning, huge penalty fees, and DAMAGE TO MY SHIP because the AI is as dumb as a bag of wet mice.

Where's the tower control???
Airplanes don't take off unless the tower authorizes it and planes don't land without a clear strip. How did the future get so bass ackwards?

OK... i take back what I said about autodock not crashing me into anything. I'm just about to land and hovering right above the pad, when an Orca takes off from the adjacent pad and blindly plows into my underside shaving me down from 100% hull integrity to 17% and there was nothing I could do about it!!!

I'm starting to think that the Orcas are the issue. Whenever there's something that goes wrong in the station, it's always an Orca at fault.

Orca's ARE the issue.

You only get 5 minute to master taking off etc.. An auto-undock, could cause many issues, one, being it takes too long and you might get scanned.

if the autodock is exiting your ship from the station, there's no reason it can't disable the timer. if you're trying to avoid scanning, you probably already have your autodock disabled or in storage.

Or not:

Lol what? How is this a thing? Do police ignore ships using a DC? If so, smuggling pro tip.
No the security ships do not ignore ships using the D.C.

It may however, have something to do with a little skill, on behalf of the pilot.

Either way, I still want auto undock. It's not unreasonable.

Do you know about the centering icon on your scanner?
Even the largest ships are very easy using that.

Give Astra, by HCS voicepacks a spin...

I'd like to see the scanner set up for the mail slot like the one for the landing pad. Just to give a reference for exiting a little easier.

I wouldn't mind if the docking computer had an undock function, not like it would make it OP
to TC though: you do know that you're meant to go through on the "green" light side of the station right? that's always the correct lane so nothing should slam into you head on at least? even 2 T('s can get through simultaneously though there is a little scrapage in that case

Big ships are Whales. The real issue is that Orbital Station Traffic Control needs to advise if there's conflicting traffic during approach or departure, "Foxtrot Alpha One heavy traffic departing/ behind".

Also as stated above, green is good, I don't have any issues with large ships on Arrival when I'm in my lane and my approach speed is 100 (to prevent a Whale from overtaking me). On departure, once the locks are released I line up with the Aperture asap, gain altitude whilst moving over to the green lane this way I'm not in the flight path of incoming traffic, I then wait my turn if there's traffic ahead, using these techniques I've not had any issues.

A stable approach is a good approach, at Orbitals I'm always established on approach at approx 5 k's, (my Final Approach Fix), this provides me with a relaxed approach with only fine adjustments required for aperture ingress. I enjoy manual flying into any station, great fun and part of the challenge. I'm still trying to perfect a CDA, Continuous Descent Arrival, at non orbital stations, i.e. not a square or jagged profile during descent.

I agree with op it's too difficult. Can we also have a win button, preferably automated.

and there's the random jackhole doing a drive by posting to try and gain some imaginary cool points with his imaginary friends...

derp derp i didn't read anything the OP said derp derp win button derp derp

Does Astra actually fly the ship out of the dock?

I use VA with Celeste and all it does is select launch and pushes me off the pad 30m. I have to continue up and out of the slot. Im pretty sure all the VA command packs are the same.

just to be clear...

i don't have any trouble getting through the mailslot, taking off, or landing. it's the AI that is completely blind to you, your position, and your flight path. i am aware of the scanner, the "green side", and all of that. it doesn't stop the AI from launching up underneath you, plowing into your aft, or stopping ANY TYPE OF COLLISION!

all i'm asking for, is that the docking module that flies you into the station, should also fly you out of the station. it queues you up for entry and landing, why not queue you up for take off and exit? we have control towers today for a reason. where are they in the far flung future of Elite Dangerous???

Does our ship rotate with the station while inside? I suppose it does due to the rotation option in the panel. If so I guess that's why the DC doesn't undock.
