Autofill Galaxy Map Search

Hi Cmdrs.
Do we know why the galaxy map search bar won't autofill the result. Every third party app I've used gives you answers after the first 3 letters. Does frontier not have a database that can link? The names of these planets can be long and complicated , and when you know the system name but don't remember the rest (but you know it ends in a G6) , you have to go to Inara to give you the answer.
Not the most serious issue I agree , but bugs the he'll out of me.

Not on your client it doesnt. Would cause a LOT of server load and bandwidth use.
And yet somehow eddb manages to do it without bringing the internet grinding to a halt.

I'm pretty sure that where there's a will, there's a way. I suspect that too often at FDev things that players would see as immensely useful additions to the game are dismissed as resource-frittering chrome.

Last I heard EDDB(and the others) had around 27M systems to search, ED has over 400B.

You may find it helpful to know that you can do partial searches. Like, If you're looking for Lembava but all you remember is "Lem" then just type that and press enter, the map will take you to the closest thing that starts with "Lem" and if that's not what you want then just keep pressing enter.

And it also does Planets and Stations

If you can only remember the first three letters, type the first three letters and press the search button. If it picks the wrong one, keep pressing it. Eventually it'll get the right one. (You can also put a partial station or planet name into it, and it'll search for those as well)

Obviously this works better for Barnard's Star or Eravate than for HIP 17732 ... if there are more than 200 candidates it will only cycle through the first 200 (or at least, that was the limit last time I checked, which was a while ago)

Thats why we ask these questions.
I didn't know that. Because no results pop up when you enter a couple of letters I didn't think I could do that. Thanks all.

Pretty much all of which have names which are procedurally generated. I'm sure they could come up with something. At any rate, autocomplete just for systems in the bubble and other inhabited systems would meet virtually all needs.

Unknown Zombie, Thanks for the tip about partial searches. I'll certainly check that out.
