Automatically pick a target system ~1000ly away, in the direction of another system >1000ly away

Let's say there's a system 2500ly away that you want to travel to. Today, you need to manually eyeball a system <1000ly away but in the direction toward your final destination. This is a very tedious process and is never accurate.

I would like to see a feature where, if you attempt to plot to a system >1000ly away, the computer instead locates another system along the direct vector that is just under 1000ly away and plots to that one instead. This should be very easy to implement and would really help with exploring.

Totally agreed. Use a star or coordinate as a heading, and have your computer pick a (likely scoopable type) star that's in the max range/economy range as desired, jump by jump.

Second this! Supported!!! I want it!!!! lol

I can see one potential problem with this, from a dev viewpoint. In order to calculate a sub-kylie target en route to a 2.5kylie target, the route plotter would have to be able to plot the 2.5kylie route and imagine how long that would take. If you're happy to have it plot to a star in the general direction, you'd also have to be happy to accept that star might be a dead end with the ensuing backtracking and sidetracking to get back on the path. I can imagine a lot of forum tears about 'broken' nav computers.

Another problem: Highways!
People become lazy and would only direct point from POI to POI and moan that the complete galaxy is totally explored just because all travel the same route :D
Just like with SagA* and Colonia right now.
