Automatically remove in-game Squadron Wing Commander who has been offline for 180 days

Currently there is no way to replace a missing Wing Commander from the in-game squadron. Frontier says they cannot (refuse to?) remove or change the Wing Commander to allow someone who is actually playing the game to have the Wing Commander position.

See the trouble with that is alot of folks come and go. So a player faction leader who has sole admin rights could take a hiatus for 12 mths 2 years etc then come back after a cool new content update, only to find he/she has lost his/her player faction.
A usurper!

I don't think this is a bug.

The squadron is effectively owned by the leader, if they didn't transfer control by leaving and appointing a successor, the squadron may be in a bit of a bind...but the leader is still the leader.

An optional feature that allows a squadron creator/leader to setup an automatic successor might be nice, but I don't think there is much chance of Frontier allowing what is essentially CMDR property to be transferred to another without consent.

And if they cared they would only need to log in, not even play, twice a year.

I was going to mention something about posting an issue on the bug tracker, then I realized it's literally called "Issue Tracker" :)

Regardless, I don't remember this being an option in any MMO I've ever played (guild, clan. free company, etc). Some form of it would be helpful, but it would still require taking something away from someone.

They do take away fleet carriers that are abandoned and go bust. Fleet carriers just require a quantifiable effort that cannot be influenced by others. Keep it stocked with credits, and it stays where it is. Maybe they could setup a system similar to that for Wing Commanders.

It could go either way, but I'm betting it staying the way it's always been.

Fleet Carriers are different, you don't own Fleet Carriers, you pay rent on them, when that runs out they get taken away, squadrons are created and owned by the original CMDR, if he isn't active just all leave and make your own squadron, it's not that hard, why try and steal his squadron?

Good point. I was looking at it from a point of view based on other MMO's. I see Squadrons in ED as something similar to Guilds in WoW. I left several guilds during my time with that game, all due to abandonment.

I suppose the real answer to this issue is to just move on. If the owner doesn't care, the members shouldn't waste their time.

Depending on how the squadron settings and permissions have been set up it isn't necessarily an issue anyway - the squadron leader can delegate their powers to any number of other members. If that doesn't happen, then Frontier can't really assume that they wanted to.

The other remaining active members can of course set up a new squadron (perhaps with better distribution of permissions), link it to the same power and/or minor faction, and carry on.

I can think of several reasons why someone could be unable to log in let alone play for only half a year, so even if this was allowed I think 180 days is far too short.

As they haven’t interested me I have no idea about how Squadrons work, what does the leader need to do that is essential?

As stated in a previous post if the need is urgent set up a new squadron with almost the same name and recruit the remnants of the old one into it.

I suspect making squadron ownership have a compulsory component will be met with about as much happiness as the upkeep aspect of fleet carriers was.

I dont see any issue to be fixed.
they created they squadron, it's theirs.

The only thing you can do is to form another squadron and eventually delegate the rights so your squadron can function even if the owner takes a one year break.

Note: Accepted this was not a bug but an enhancement request.

Our squad Wing Leader was run by a commander for ~5 years. He needed a break so he transferred command to another pilot who had been with us a long time. We have several Senior Officers so we can still get stuff done.
We actually think the pilot is dead (IRL) as none of his other online activities have been updated in over a year (X, Discord, his biking sites, etc).

There should be some way to replace a Wing Leader. Signed Affidavits by X Senior Officers and a Wing Leader missing over 22 Months. Replaced with the previous Wing Commander. Who could complain?
Heck we'd be willing to pay one of their interns $50 to cover the cost!
