Autopilot for Orbital Cruise

A good idea?
Today I was flying in orbital cruise about 40 clicks above the surface of a planet and a thought occurred to me, when natural POI's etc are added wouldn't it be a good idea to "lock" my ship to 0 horizon and whatever altitude I desire and survey any interesting features without having to manually adjust altitude ever so slightly all the time.

Now I'm not a fan of autopilot generally but maybe this one time it could be a handy "module" for surveyors and explorers.

Good/bad idea and any thoughts on a feature such as this?

It would be nice if it just kind of grabbed the horizon and held it. Any significant pressure on the stick and it'd break free. Maybe, I'd not go so far as to even classify it as autopilot, more like flight assist than anything. In fact they could make it toggleable like flight assist. Good idea.

pitch or yaw lock/slider feature could be useful for this.. but you still have to make a small corrections/adjustments...

I think if they give an autopilot fefature then we should have autopilot for everything.. and that would kill the gameplay, no? because the core gameplay is actually you flying the ship..

I support this

Like the auto level we already have at slow speeds at low altitudes, put the ship at 0 degrees in OC and be able to enjoy the view

Yes! Advanced flight-assist! Not a full-blown autopilot!

Yes, not so much an autopilot as a horizon level stabilizer and you could adjust your speed manually in this mode.
I could see this as a benefit when atmospheric planets arrive, particularly windy/hurricane weather planets.
