Available for PATCH design!

So, I installed the trial version of Affinity Designer, I'm thinking of buying it, and I have a 3-day weekend to watch the 24h of Le Mans and do other stuff at the same time. So if there's an expedition secretly in the planning and that needs a patch, holler at me 'cause I have a design software to test :D

Can you come up with one that would convince a 5 year old that watching the first two hours of Le Mans is the perfect 5th birthday party and her friends will love it?

Hey Qohen!

I have two expeditions that I've been considering. Neither have quite escaped initial concept state.

The first is The Elder Suns Expedition. The purpose of which is to try and identify stars that date back to very close to the origin of the universe with the hopes of locating Population III stars. Here's a link to where I explain it in more details: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...ey-to-find-the-Milky-Way-s-most-ancient-stars

The second doesn't even have a name yet ... an expedition to the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy ... a galaxy that has merged with the Milky Way. Info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canis_Major_Overdensity Names that I've toyed with for this one include "The Little Big Dog Expedition" and "Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy Survey".

Let us know how you like Affinity! I know nothing about it and do most of my design work in Inkscape.

No surprise those who love exploration love Le Mans 24 too. :D

I'd have two suggestions:
- One for the fumarole and geyser guys, MadRaptor and Varonica
- Or as a trial 'Thargoid Survey Society', the flower ship is surely a great assett/design

Okay, I started on a patch, then went off to try new things. Affinity has potential, but quite annoying on small UI things and a few features.

So, you too start with the lowest priority work? :D

That looks awesome - I'm alway amazed by the quality and love for details!

Unfortunately I don't have time right now for actual feedback, but will try to get around to it this evening and send you a PM.

Oh, yeah, and maybe I should have mentioned it was meant as a little surprise for the other guys :p

Redfox, you should've said something about this! (EDIT: Surprise? You bet I'm surprised!)

Awesome work on your part Qohen, I can't rep you enough! :D

Just received a time-sensitive commission, but I'll see what I can come up with for the ESE. However, I probably won't make as much detail as on the HH patch, cause it just takes for-e-ver (about 15 hours for the ship alone) :D

Regarding Affinity, it sure has more vector tools than the Photoshop I'm using (obviously). However, some UI details are really annoying for me (like the color picker or the incredibly unnerving eye dropper). Not sure it is really 'better' than Illustrator (haven't used it in a long time), but the ability to work both vector and raster in the same software and at the same time is quite awesome. Totally worth a try, but if I buy it, I'll keep Ps around anyway. And watch tutorials or read the manual, cause the interface is hiding quite a lot of the cool features.

No surprise those who love exploration love Le Mans 24 too. :D

First isn't a mission or an expedition afaik, and the second isn't a thing (yet?) :p

How about a patch for SRV distance? Broke 1000km a bit ago and am still going (1200 now).

I think you miss the point :D

Patch for ancient guardians mission ? :)

Isn't a thing (yet?)

Guys, I said 'expedition' and 'in the planning', I have other hobbies, you know :D

Awesome!!! Still looking forward to your coming expeditions :)

At OP: I love your work. Do you also design Commander Patches?

Thanks! What do you mean, Cmdr patch? Same thing, but with your name on it? I don't think I'll start doing those. It's less interesting for me, and I could get flooded with requests, and I don't really have the time/the motivation. That being said, there's a great guide on these forums to help you design yours yourself :D
