We got underwater aquatic animals, which is really neat. I did not expect the game to have that feature. So I started to imagine some "new" things that they could put in.
I got to thinking about bird dlc. So imagine there's a special type of "aviary" barrier we can build. Which denotes that the habitat will be for birds. The barrier could be meshed walls or netting. Make it so that we have the option to build a custom roof, like a dome, with the construction tab. You could supply prefab aviary cages too. The "guest gate" that allows them to enter the aviary should be pretty, like an victorian iron-cage design or modern glass doors. You can even have an "invisible" gate, to give the appearance of an open entrance that the birds will not escape from.
We already have animal pathing on climbable objects. Birds would be no different. They can recognize which branches to sit on, as bears already do, and monkeys.
You can then add bird species from all sorts of different regional DLC and base game. Or you can just make a bird pack on it's own, packed full of different bird species from the regions.
For zoo revenue you sell bird food in the merchandise store.
You can have special versions of the mini-habitats, i.e. small canaries in a bird cage, which work just as snakes and spiders do.
Edit: I know adding entirely new concepts isn't easy. I don't mean to make the DLC sound like its a piece of cake. it would be difficult to introduce something new but I think in the end would be totally worth it for the quality of the game ^^
