Aviary Pack Ideas v3.0

Following the release of the new Africa Pack, I've decided to once again revise my idea for an avian themed DLC.
With Patch 1.6, Mesh Fence pieces are finally in which I'm really grateful of as much as many of us are! Furthermore, the new flora added are also a stunner for making aviaries! Still I believe more stuff can be added in the future, starting with the possible patch updates.

Patch Updates:
Update to Base Game:

  • Larger, modular exhibits allowing three extensions of 4m x 4m (total addition of 48 sq m) by size. (Some people might say even bigger, but hey really? Areas bigger than your room for like two or three iguanas? No offense.)
  • Peafowls are now able to perch on certain trees, ropes, and branches etc., with Perchable tags, as with other birds that can perch IRL.
  • Meshes are now Climbable as well. (I know this would only be possible if there were any other patch updates which support improved climbable systems e.g. Arboreal Pack? in the future, otherwise a major challenge for Frontiers team)
  • Free new habitat items:
    • Hollow Log Feeder
    • Twigs Bedding
    • Dust Bath
    • Small Water Pool
    • Perchables
      • Branches (1m, 2m, 4m)
      • Bamboo (1m, 2m, 4m)
      • Logs (1m, 2m, 4m)
  • Free new nature props:
    • Philodendron
    • King Sago
    • Jelly Palm
    • Traveler's palm
  • Free new construction pieces:
    • Concrete Base Trims
    • Octagonal Roof Pieces
DLC Features:
  • New Animals:
    • Bald Eagle
    • Great Hornbill
    • White Pelican
    • Snowy Owl
    • Secretary Bird
    • Blue and Gold Macaw
    • Laughing Kookaburra
    • Bali Mynah (small aviary)
  • New Barrier Category:
    Aviaries
  • New Habitat items:
    • Hanging Mirror Mobile
    • Hanging Puzzle Feeder
    • Elevated Nest Platforms
  • New Nature props:
    • Almond Tree
    • Chinese Fan Palm
    • Windmill Palm
    • Bottle Palm
    • Mango Tree
    • Sacred Fig
    • Screw Pine
    • Malay Padauk
    • Indian Jujube
  • New Construction pieces:
    • Grid aligned Mesh Pieces with TRIANGULAR AND CURVED PIECES
    • Narrow-gapped Mesh Pieces
    • Aviary Caps (different materials)
    • Aviary Frames (different shapes and materials)
  • New Buildings:
    • Aviary Exhibit - able to extend by modular area with maximum additional space of 48 sq m
    • Flight Stations - placeable only inside an aviary where birds would fly over the educators to have a treat, boosting enrichment as well.

As always, am open for plenty feedbacks and thanks in advance!!

Hayo! We recently answered this when I was on RudiRennkamel's stream. It's not something the team are currently looking at adding into the game. Eggs would require substantial development resources to do them justice for a very short life stage. It was decided to put more effort into the juvenile state of the animals because this affected the greatest proportion of animal species.
Here is her message. Buy, later on somebody suggested that eggs could be static props, and one of the CMs saud they'd pass it to the team

It's also unlikely that they'll lock any kind of aviary system behind a DLC. Doing so would mean they have to reintroduce the same system into any subsequent DLC with birds. It's more likely that we get a covered habitat system in the free update along with some new enrichment that could conceivably be used by any arboreal species in the game, and then a pack that adds the birds separately (which also means that any future DLC could include new birds).

Firstly i think aviary pack is going to have more than 8 birds and cost 15$ like Ghost Buster dlc in Planet Coaster.
Bali Mynah (small aviary)
What do you mean by small aviary? If it is supposed to be something like current exhibits then it wont happen since its confirmed there wont be animals like small mammals or birds. Only reptiles, insects etc.. I know people are mostly copying frontier dlc system, but arctic pack had no exhibit animal. Bali mynah would be as detailed as birds like bald eagle. I see no reason why one bird would be looped and stuck in small aviary while other have full flying animations.

Also i think building aviaries will work like JWE2 version, but with more details. It will be a new wall type and when you connect all walls then roof would be added (player will be able to chose if roof need to be flat etc.).

So rather than a new barrier system, it's more likely to have a system which allows barrier tops to form a roof?

At first I thought of the same idea too, my previous rosters were like 10 species minimum. It's just that I try to keep low expectations with the animal roster.

At any case, thank you guys for your opinion 🙏

It could still be a new barrier system, but the main point is that Frontier doesn't hide new gameplay aspects behind a DLC. This assumes birds are going to be full habitat animals and not something else, but if it's anything like Jurassic World Evolution 2 (which is the predominant theory, due to the free-flying pterosaurs and the engine update to Planet Zoo) then that seems likely.

My theory is that we'll get some kind of system in the free update to build covered habitats. Whether that's toggling a roof on an existing habitat barrier, or a new modular construction system separate from both traditional habitats and buildings (since building pieces can't play a role in animal containment without a barrier, and all the current barriers only prevent escape to terrestrial and aquatic species since they can't just fly over the top) is anyone's guess (if it's like JWE2, then a modular system seems likely), but the main point is that it will be usable with any animal in the game, not just birds.

This makes sense for a few reasons; first of all, as said before, by introducing this new habitat type in the free update, and giving us birds separately, Frontier can put birds in future DLC releases. Second of all, by making the "aviary" something that can be used by any animal, it means they don't have to give away any free birds in the update, because they're giving us a useful base game feature. Third, covered habitats separate from birds have been highly-requested for use on animals such as primates, cats, and so on, all of which are commonly contained in covered habitats in real life. Fourth, because we can assume there will be a limited number of birds, the prospect of mixed species habitats becomes bleak if birds can't be kept with other animals; by making it so birds can share these habitats with other species (such as, say, macaws and capuchins or something), they can give birds more extensive interspecies enrichment bonuses, encouraging players to buy the bird DLC along with the update in order to create new dynamic zoos features.

In saying all that, I could be totally wrong, but of course there's still always the chance everyone is wrong and we never see birds in the game at all. IMO, what I laid out above is the most likely direction to go in, unless aviaries are going to be like exhibits (in which case, sure, hide them behind a DLC).
