It's been a while since I made an actual wishlist, and now we have a little more indication how long support might continue I thought it was time.
Note that we don't know for sure how long support continues, but the newest guestimate is at least May 2023, so I'm gonna make a wishlist for 2022 and 2023.
This wishlist will assume 4 yearly DLCs, just like we had so far. It will alternate animal packs with scenery packs and a new pack type.
I left out aviary animals, because I'm not sure in what kind of format they would be handled. So there's no aviary expansion (or any expansion at all, I kept it at formats reasonably in line with what we've gotten so far).
The first year we got all scenery packs. In the second year we got 2 scenery, 2 animal packs. Starting from the third year, I'll do 1 scenery, 1 animal, and 2 biome packs.
Each DLC will be accompanied by a free update, as per usual. A scenery pack is accompanied by 3 sets of foliage, as we are used to. An animal pack gets some animal-related scenery pieces. When there is a biome pack, the free update will not contain foliage (as obviously there is already plenty of foliage in the DLC) and instead will come with animal-related pieces as well.
Each month we have no DLC will from now on contain 1 free animal that is added to the base game. I'm taking some big liberties here, so I'll make a rule that the free animal must be based off a base game animal as much as possible (like the black & white ruffed lemur), can preferably be added to the game with minimal changes to the animal's model and behavior, and isn't a high stakes animal that has a high fan appeal. They function as 'teasers' for what is to come!
With this wishlist I hope to give some interesting ideas. Especially the biome packs are something I'd be really happy with. Some of the packs in this wishlist I feel are sure to be absolute bangers, like the Northeast Asia scenery pack. But I tried to let each of these packs have something that appeals to everyone. Big animals, small animals, herbivores, predators. Some packs lend themselves to more diversity than others though. Enjoy, and let me know what you think

The Eurasian wolf is added, based off the Northwestern wolf, its range reflects Eurasia.

So now we have come to the end of 2023
There are still notable animals I'd love to include, fan-favorite animals like the maned wolf, African crested porcupine, wolverine, hamadryas baboon, Asian small-clawed otter, musk ox, sloth, black rhinoceros, and many many more. But alas, choices.
Personally I'd love to see a lot more ungulates in the game as well. Antelopes such as scimitar-horned oryx, Tibetan antelope, saiga antelope, greater kudu, giant eland, dikdik. Deer such as père David's deer, marsh deer, pudu, wapiti, roe deer, muntjac. And other such as musk ox, serow, yak, guanaco, vicuña, grevy zebra, kiang, black rhino... There's a lot to unpack here, because ungulates make up a large portion of zoo collections.
I could also do with more felines, such as the serval, sand cat, golden cat, jaguarundi, Eurasian wildcat. And more canines, such as the maned wolf, bush dog, Ethiopian wolf, coyote, golden jackal, black-backed jackal.
I get that for region-based or biome-based packs, you have to make choices because you want variety. But after some time it would be nice to get packs focused on specific animal groups? But that's just me speaking, as I realize this is a gamble because not everyone is interested in a pack with only ungulates, or only felines and canines. Or maybe not, and it's something lots of people actually would be very pleased with? It might not be completely comparable because birds are still lacking in Planet Zoo right now, but I think having an entire DLC dedicated to birds would be well-received (and is likely to happen at some point? Who knows!). In any case, I'd welcome an ungulate pack with open arms. And a cats & dogs pack as well.
For fun, what such packs might look like according to my wishes...
Last but not least, it would be really awesome to have butterfly houses and bats in-game as well! Perhaps they could be added whenever aviary animals arrive...?
That's it!
As a parting TL, DR (too long, didn't read
), here's a comprehensive list of all the animals mentioned above. Monthly animals are italic, DLC animals are bold and colored, extra packs are normal.
Thank you for making it to the end of my wishlist!
Putting these together was so much fun!
For me, they are all 10/10, would buy. The goal is to allow each zoo to feel like a totally different place with different animals. And for that, we need a lot more animals and foliage
One thing I do know for sure: content for this game could go on for years!
This wishlist will assume 4 yearly DLCs, just like we had so far. It will alternate animal packs with scenery packs and a new pack type.
- Scenery pack: 4+1 animals, approximately 200 building pieces, a couple new foliage pieces.
- Animal pack: 7+1 animals.
- Biome pack: 6+1 animals, approximately 70 new foliage pieces.
I left out aviary animals, because I'm not sure in what kind of format they would be handled. So there's no aviary expansion (or any expansion at all, I kept it at formats reasonably in line with what we've gotten so far).

Barbary macaque, based off the Japanese macaque.

March 2022 Q1
Mountains biome pack
What do bighorn sheep and Barbary macaque have in common? They both inhabit mountain ranges of respectively the Rocky Mountains and the Atlas Mountains.
The first biome pack. It has unique and interesting animals, but perhaps this is more of a rarity pack as there aren't any big names. Still, I think this pack will please most people, as it has animals both big and small that are interesting to look at. I chose to go with Himalayan and Alpine animals mostly.
Golden takin. A giant ox-sized golden goat from the Himalayas (north/east side).
Markhor. Another goat from the Himalayas (south/west side), but markedly different from the takin with a bushy mane and spectacular spiral horns.
Spectacled bear (Andean bear). South America gets its bear from the Andean cloud forests.
Chamois. A charming little Alpine antelope.
Pallas cat. The original perpetual grumpy cat from the Himalayas.
Alpine marmot. A small mountain rodent from the Alps.
+ Greater short-horned lizard. A spiky lizard that shoots blood from its eyes when it is attacked, found in the Rocky Mountains.
Foliage includes a ton of flowers, and a lot of (mostly taiga) foliage that characterizes mountainous regions from all over the world. This will allow us to create beautiful and varied mountain exhibits that are anything but dull. With around 70 new foliage pieces and also quite a few new animals, I think this will be a very nice introduction to what biome packs could mean for the future of the game.
Some examples include:

May 2022
Eastern grey kangaroo, based off the red kangaroo.

June 2022 Q2
Oceania animal pack
Another kangaroo and the Australian lace monitor? That means a revisit to Australia and the surrounding areas.
We've had an Australia scenery pack, which gave us the popular red kangaroo and koala and building pieces, but the entire region of Oceania is still sorely lacking in animals. An Oceania animal pack is therefore a logical step to take, and would be appreciated by a lot of players. I think the choices below are universally agreed on as desirable.
Tasmanian devil. The iconic marsupial predator from Tasmania.
Bennett's wallaby. A small cute roo commonly kept all over the world.
Emu. The iconic land bird of Australia we missed out on in favor of the impressive cassowary. Understandable, but the emu is still very welcome!
Goodfellow's tree kangaroo OR Matschie's tree kangaroo. I have no preference for either of these as they are so similar, but one thing I do know: a tree kangaroo needs to be here.
Kiwi. A small ground bird that represents New Zealand.
Common wombat. A much-beloved marsupial, kind of like a ground-dwelling koala.
Platypus. Not a mammal but it lactates and has fur, not a bird but it lays eggs and has a beak, not a reptile but it's poisonous. Nature's oddity.
+ Frilled lizard. An odd-looking and eye-catching reptile.

Rainforests biome pack
Two tropical animals means something tropical is coming just before autumn sets in.
Finally the capybara arrives! This pack contains very popular monkeys as well, the pretty red river hog, and has an unusual pick in the fossa. I imagine this DLC will be accompanied by a free update that improves the climbing system and adds brachiation, which can be used by all the monkeys in this DLC and by the already existing orangutan.
Capybara. Every zoo's friendly neighborhood rodent.
Red howler monkey. This howler monkey will liven up your zoos for sure with their loud voices.
Black spider monkey. An agile monkey with arms and legs for days.
Lar gibbon. A gibbon, what people have been wanting ever since the South East Asia animal pack.
Red river hog. A colorful African swine.
Fossa. Rounding out Madagascar with a unique predator.
+ Panther chameleon. This colorful animal needs no introduction. Feast your eyes.
Foliage includes lots more rainforest flowers and trees, so we can create a good approximation of rainforests with their forest floor, understorey, canopy, and emergent layers. The name of the game is lush, colors, shrooms, and fruits! The animals in this pack are great, and brachiation and a climbing overhaul will make many people happy, but I think the real meat is in the beautiful and colorful plants, flowers, and mushrooms.

Dec 2022 Q4
Northeast Asia scenery pack
The addition of two Eurasian animals indicated something Eurasian was coming--and that's sort of right! Except the focus is a little more east.
The year ends with a scenery pack that will provide new building pieces. I waited so long with a scenery pack, because I feel the building pieces already in-game have almost every base covered. More on the new pieces below. The animal selection I feel is a very strong one, with a leopard and Przewalski horse leading the charge, the quite popular tanuki, and a Siberian musk deer for the unusual pick.
Amur leopard. The craved-for leopard, and this one is the most popular in the rankings.
Siberian musk deer. This medium-sized deer has fangs instead of antlers.
Tanuki (raccoon dog). A cute and fluffy animal found all over Asia.
Przewalski horse. The only wild horse species left in the world, which came back from the brink of extinction.
+ Variegated toadhead agama. Giving Mongolia some more representation.
The building pieces are traditional Siberian wood and lace architecture, inspired by what you would see in Tomsk and Irkutsk. We will get the much-desired horizontal wood building pieces that are useful in lots of builds, such as log cabins for American and Scandinavian builds. All pieces are flexi color, allowing for naturalistic muted builds and also really colorful builds.

Feb 2023
Wild water buffalo, based off the African buffalo.

March 2023 Q1
India animal pack
Two Indian animals means that the time for an India focused pack has come. This pack may not have been widely anticipated, but I feel it is a logical step to take.
We arrive in India, another region that has the architecture but strangely still lacks the animal representation. The base game only gave us a rhino and elephant... which seems weird to devote an entire building style to. So welcome a host of Indian animals! Most of these animals are quite unknown unless you are really into animals, making this another more niche 'rarity' pack.
Blackbuck. A beautiful Indian antelope.
Gaur. A giant beefy bovine.
Lion-tailed macaque. An iconic monkey widely associated with India.
Nilgai. India's 'blue cow'.
Grey langur. Also called Hanuman monkeys, shares its name with an Indian god.
Small Indian civet. The unusual pick in this pack is this viverrid, the first civet species in game.
Malabar giant squirrel. The game's first squirrel, and a colorful one at that.
+ Indian cobra. A dangerous snake that is shown to be hypnotized by flute music in folklore.

May 2023
Arabian oryx, based off the gemsbok.

June 2023 Q2
Deserts biome pack
As the desert antelopes hinted at, summer arrives with a heatwave!
Deserts could do with more representation, especially Arabian deserts which are sorely lacking. After this pack, an Arabian section in your zoos will finally be possible, and we can also put the North African theme to good use. Like with the Indian theme, it's weird that we have a theme with so few animals to go along with it.
Addax. The critically endangered Saharan desert antelope.
Striped hyena. A large predator found all over the Middle East.
Patagonian mara. Small South American rodent that looks like an antelope and a rabbit had offspring.
Somali wild donkey. A critically endangered equine from the horn of Africa, and the game's first donkey.
Dromedary. We already have the decorations, it's time we got the animal itself.
Caracal. A beautiful golden desert cat.
+ Inland taipan. An infamous Australian desert snake.
Foliage includes desert and scrubland plants, flowers, and trees from all over the world. Deserts can be bare, but all the options this pack provides will make sure that desert habitats in our zoos need never be boring. Examples include:

American flamingo, based off the greater flamingo.

Sept 2023 Q3
Central America scenery pack
When I thought about which scenery is still missing from the game at this point, there was one big thought in my head, and that was Central and South American architecture. We already got a South American pack, so I went with Central America. Besides, there are still some notable animals missing from this region! The Rainforests biome pack mentioned above goes really well with this pack, as it introduces some monkeys that live in this area.
Ocelot. The game's first genuine small cat species. I contemplated going for the jaguarundi, but the ocelot is widely requested.
White-nosed coatimundi. A peculiar animal typical for Central America that strangely enough is related to the raccoon.
Collared peccary. A suine that isn't a swine.
West Indian manatee. The game's first fully aquatic animal. I love manatees at my local zoo, so I really want to see them in the game as well.
+ Eyelash viper. A visually very striking snake.
The South America DLC gave us temple and bamboo building pieces, but it would be nice to get something more cultural. So this scenery pack will give us colorful Mexican and Colombian architecture. This will allow for full-fledged Central and South American zoos!

Temperate biome pack
I could go on and on with pack ideas... there are plenty of animals that can still be added at this point. But I decided to top this entire wishlist off with a final visit to North America and Eurasia. Some 'plain' but charming animals which are beloved by many and ingrained in our cultures.
Red deer. Found all over Eurasia and deeply rooted in European culture, with a deep and resonating roaring call.
Wild boar. A staple of the Eurasian wilderness, and nowadays known pretty much all over the world, as it has been introduced in many places.
Striped skunk. A beautiful but smelly little North American fellow.
Raccoon. Smart, brave, and iconic for North American nature, and introduced in Europe.
Brown hare. Finally the game gets a leporid (rabbits and hares). The brown hare is one of the largest hares, found all over the world, and is the main prey of many predators.
Red fox. The classic fox found all over North America and Eurasia.
+ Axolotl. An odd but cute temperate aquatic animal from North America.
Foliage includes lots of temperate trees, plants, and flowers. It will notably include fruit trees such as apple, pear, prune, and peach trees, but also raspberry, strawberry, blueberry plants. Also:

For fun, what such packs might look like according to my wishes...

Cats & dogs pack
Maned wolf. The missing stilt-legged South American canine (that is not a wolf
).
Bush dog. A weird small South American dog-like creature.
Black-backed jackal. A recognizable African jackal.
Serval. A slender big-eared African savannah cat.
Sand cat. Small very cute desert cat found in Africa and the Middle East.
Jaguarundi. A small elusive South American jungle cat.
Asian golden cat. A beautiful cat found in Asia, that actually comes in several different shades including gold, but also black, chocolate, and marbled.
Eurasian wildcat. A small cat that kind of looks like a house cat but isn't.
Ungulate pack
Saiga antelope. An odd-looking Asian antelope with a small trunk.
Scimitar-horned oryx. Was extinct in the wild, and brought back from the brink of extinction through captive breeding programs.
Vicuña. The wild counterpart to the domesticated alpaca, adapted to high elevations and deserts.
Musk ox. A giant fluffy animal that's actually more closely related to goats than cattle.
Wapiti. The North American counterpart to the red deer, with a haunting screeching call.
Pudu. The world's smallest deer, and very cute!
Greater kudu. A large popular African antelope.
Père David's deer. An Asian swamp deer that is extinct in the wild. Their antlers look like actual tree branches, it's very peculiar!
Maned wolf. The missing stilt-legged South American canine (that is not a wolf
