Newcomer / Intro Avoid authority scans at stations?

Pretty new to the game, just wondering if there is any way to hide from getting scanned at stations?
I tried turning on silent running when the scan started, but that didn't work.

The method I use is to stay away from the station until you are lined up with the entrance, and then just head directly inside at full speed with power set to engines, as soon as you hear the 'scan detected' just hit boost, once you're inside they cannot finish the scan unless they still somehow have line of sight on you. I dont even bother with silent running anymore. I get the feeling the system needs tweaking as it just feels too easy to get inside with illegal or stolen goods.

If you want to practice it with no danger then just go in and out of a station with no goods in your cargo at all, if they manage to finish the scan (something along the lines of, 'ok we're done here, move along') then you failed. You might even be able to practice this in the tutorial that starts you off in the station, the travel tutorial i think, but i dont even know for sure if there are security ships in that mission and if there are I dont even know if they scan.

good luck!

I fly from the bottom of the station close and fast to it as possible and get into the slot ASAP most time the scan never gets done.

Outposts are an option but there will be times you just need to get into a station. I don't recommend the dash method in general or for newbies in particular as it does require a good level of pilot skills for one and, two, you run the risk of being a smudge on the station hull or whacking some ship trying to come out. If you have to stop your dash to prevent one or two you are hanging there waiting for a scan which becomes a fine or death.

The method I use is to approach the station in super cruise from the orbital body side. When you drop out of super cruise you should b e around 9k from the station and facing the entrance gate. Align on the gate, drop flight assist, boost and hit silent running. With flight assist off you maintain your speed toward the station. I don't run shields which reduces quite a bit of background heat plus gives me more cargo space. If you're a combat vessel you may have to manually shut down extra modules which does take some time before you boost to the station.

At about 1k out I put flight assist back on, turn engine power to 50% and down to 1 or zero pips and then drop landing gear. This slows you down at max agility. You are still on silent running. Once through the gate you drop silent running and dock. Takes about a minute from the time you drop from super cruise till you dock. If traffic in the gate an issue you are close enough to wait them out before entering and still in silent running to stay unnoticed.

Never been scanned.

If you want to be super careful, you can use the modules (on the right hand menu) tab and shut down all unnecesary systems.
This will reduce your heat signature, making them less likely to spot you.
In principle, this is everything except the power generator and your sensors.
Wait for a while for the signature to drop (and your ship to freeze).

Then turn on the boosters very shortly to give yourself a nudge towards the station (no flight assist) and turn the boosters off again.
You are now a frozen clump drifting towards the entrance and they won't notice you.
When you get close to the entrance, turn on silent running, thrusters and flight assist.
Then fly inside as rapidly as possible.

Then again, on normal occasions when I don't waste time docking, they rarely finish their scans anyways.

So, just so I dont really screw myself over here...

If I am dropping "everything but sensors and thrusters" to minimize heat and run silent for longer... and I turn off my cargo racks and cargo hatch.... will all my ill-gotten goods go spewing into space?
