Avoiding Interdiction Much easier on Xbox Controller than X52

Has anyone else noticed that whilst the X52 is a better controller for ED in most ways, it's much easier to avoid interdiction with an Xbox controller.

In fact, it's almost like the code deliberately makes it easier with an Xbox controller.

On X52, the escape vector is all over the place and I have to really work hard to escape - I probably escape about 70% of the time.

On Xbox Controller I can easily excape 100% of the time without even breaking a sweat.

(I tend to only break out the X52 at the weekends as it takes up too much space on my desk during working week - weekday evenings I tend to use Xbox controller).

Did anyone else notice this?

Avoid? Avoid? Bad manners Sir. The gentleman has thrown down the gauntlet, do the honourable thing and pick the gauntlet up and enter a duel with the said gentleman or lady.

Nerf the pad! Nerf it! Its all unfair etc....

Seriously though, I found them both to be the same with interdictions. I do find close combat easier with the pad though despite the lack of rudder twist (love that with my T Flight).

A good case in point.
Every time someone reports an issue there are a flood of cries of "Its not an issue because I don't experience it!, which doesn't help anything)

If people realized that nearly all PC software and hardware configurations are different, and they both affect the way that an application runs, then the forum could be such a more constructive place.

Have to admit I'm finding it hard to justify a HOTAS set up right now as the PS4 controller pretty much has it nailed and the additional touchpad is pretty handy. I'll come round eventually at some point. DS4Windows is the app I use which fools the PC into thinking you're using an Xbox controller as there's no native compatibility.

M&K user here, I've only failed a few interdiction escapes and only because the escape vector took me into a star, everything else has always seemed very simple to avoid. It's probably a case of what you're most comfortable using, so even though the HOTAS is a better controller your vast experience with thumb sticks trumps them? (major assumption!)

Haven't had time or nerve to test out the Xbox 360 controller (Wii U Pro pad in this case) extensively, but maybe there is something to it?

Why don't you film some interdiction escape attempts with either controller so you can do a reliable comparison?

I fight Inters using my mouse; MUCH easier. Switch back to stick if I lose, or win. Ship doesn't turn fast enough.

I'm yet to try the 360 controller. I wonder if you still encounter the wigged out escape vector flickering back-and-forth issue with it? I find with my T-flight I can get out of almost every interdiction when that happens, since it causes the escape bar to rocket up. Or as I like to call it, awesome piloting skills.

You mean you don't submit, combat log then come and rant on the forums about broken promises.

Tut. What sort of gamer are you?

Good lord! Nearly choked on my shreddies. Bravo :D

I haven't tried flying with a pad yet but so far I managed to win all the interdiction minigames with my X36 HOTAS, regardless of what ship I'm flying (even with a T6 I never had a problem of keeping the escapevector in sight).

Nope I am not a console user and I much prefer the X52 - I find it much easier to control in almost every way. This is just the one thing I noticed recently. It's weird because when I'm interdicted with an X52 connected, the escape vector is usually already off the screen and I have to figure out where it is, and then it dances around like crazy so that even at max joystick deflection it jumps around like crazy.

As said, I only use Xbox controller as I have to work in my home office in the week and I don't want X52 taking up space all the time. I generally try to avoid combat with Xbox controller and I have not really tried combat with it at all - just use it for trading and other activities.

However on the Xbox controller the Escape vector is usually close to the center of my view as soon as I'm interdicted, and it's a piece of cake to follow it easily.

Next time I'm using X52 I will observe again just in case this is coincidence and it's down to pilot skill of the ship interdicting me, but it seems pretty consistent so far.

No, but the other day I had to jettison my cargo because another player interdicted me successfully (on X52), and he was threatening me etc. The doorbell rang and it was my Indian take away for dinner.

This pirate got the message from deep space "It's your lucky day, my dinner was just delivered" whereupon I jettisoned my cargo and logged out, also pointing out that as it was rares he would have to travel 130ly to sell them. Then I logged out. Not sure if that's classed as combat logging.

Totally agree. I think I tired my xbox controller back when I bought the game. Found it rather clunky and mouse and keyboard were terrible. Just tried the controller now in Horizons because ive been thinkin the same thing and it is indeed way easier. Don't have the problem of starting sideways too much, I think that's just a bug that's being worked out and sometimes that even works in my favor. Its like the full movement on the joystick doesn't reach the limits of what the craft can do, so you're always only turning close to what you could be but never reaching it. Lets say with the controller 100% reach the crafts limit and the x52 maybe 75% maybe even less.

If you actually logged out rather than disconnecting, FD doesn't consider it to be combat logging.

What if you used both the stick part on the hotas and the gamepad on the left hand instead of throttle?

I have both xbone pad and x55, however I have never tried the gamepad, reading this made me curious.

The problem, if there is one, stems from the stick and how its inputs are interpreted by the game so replacing the throttle wouldn't solve anything. Throttle will be in the blue range somewhere.

The little stick you can move much faster than large joystick, every controller I have that is configurable is set to low resistance so I can move it faster.

It has nothing to do with the movement speed of the stick, it's not like you have to change direction 5 times per second.

I also use a HOTAS (thrustmaster x flight), and since 1.4 i could evade maybe 2 or 3 interdictions. The escape vector acts as if it were sticked to the edge of the screen. I don't even bother with the minigame anymore.
