Aw No! Iv Totalled My 'Conda

Nooooooo!.......Iv just totalled my 226mil credit 'Conda. It's only my 3rd ship loss, the other 2 both being Sidewinders on Day 1 of Elite Dangerous launch.

Now before anyone says it, I am totally at fault. You can't launch a ship from an Engineers base while

1. Not concentrating on the game - watching TV.
2. Playing ED after frequenting your local 'watering hole' & having a skinful of nice cool beer.

I can't really say what happened, I don't know.....I hit upward thrusters on the Engineers base launch pad, raised landing gear, pointed upwards & power to full.
Simple, I done it 1000's of time.

Next thing I notice, my shields are going offline & I see from the surface scanner that I'm on the ground. I try to lift off with the thrusters but the poor ship won't lift off.
I look again & notice that I'm upside down on the ground - that's why my ship won't lift, it's turned turtle!

Obviously down to my alcohol intake, my next actions are not the wisest & a lesson for us all....

...YOU CAN'T ROLL YOUR SHIP OVER IF IT'S STILL ON THE GROUND!!!.........Eject! Eject! Eject! BOOOOOOM!

Up comes the Insurance screen with my 11.3mil credit rebuy cost.

I didn't realise that you could individually untick/tick all the modules on the selection screen, Iv never seen that screen since day 1.

Anyway, what's done is done, Iv plenty of credits to cover my loss many times over & at least my module upgrades are still intact on my 'Conda.

Lesson learnt.....don't get distracted when playing ED & playing under the influence can impair your judgement & be quite costly.

You daft nana

I've flown drunk, but more often flown tired, usually on Friday nights where I stay up til the wee hours playing...no mishaps like this, a couple of very close calls however (almost running out of fuel, forgetting to zero-throttle) and I've woken up in my chair after nodding off for an hour to find the ship just sat, sitting-duck-like...

Haha, I had a similar incident once when flying when feeling tired, I was returning to dock my ship for the night and was not paying attention to traffic (before we got nice ATC voices), I was flying in the slot on the red side and face planted my viper into a player anaconda leaving the station...

We both survived luckily, but I got a fine for reckless flying. It was a funny moment to have in a video game and I had to apologise to the other player, remember the Spaceway code guys and take a break if you are tired! :p

Yeah.. flying under the influence with TV on the other monitor is dangerous. I once slammed my Cobra into the gravity well of a white dwarf 9000LYs from home when I was flying drunk, and that was back in the days when heat damage ate the hull immediately. that was what cut my first attempt at Sagittarius A* short... :)

...and take a break if you are tired! :p

Unfortunately that's the only time I have to play...after the kids have gone to bed and I'm knackered after a day at work...

But still, haven't had this happen to me (the incident with OP)...I have dived into suns after falling asleep while refueling but the alarm always woke me up before destruction (at least so far).

Frawd

I have lost two due to instakill, but I still have the same conda that went to DW, in the memory of triggers broom.

Ah well, you are not alone in this. And just to mention: you can't roll your ship "just" above the ground either. I tried that. Without having the 'local watering hole' or the 'I'm watching TV' excuse. Fortunately for me it only cost me a few percent of my hull, so I'm still flying :).

Fly safe sober,
CMDR Jermus

Damn. I know that one.
Also I know the phenomeon.
On some planets you can't hold the height by flying upside down. I tried that for some time during exploration trips while searching the ground. You turn on your back and suddenly you drop. Turn again, everything is ok. Turn again on dour back, dropping.
Next time try performing a roll to get on your feet.

Seems like I’ve lost a lot more ships than the rest of you!

My Sidewinder early on because I thought I was a hotshot pilot. A Hauler back then to a pirate. An Eagle in a resource site. My Vulture four times in various combat situations. My Asp to a wing of pirates. My Asp again to a hacker. Oh and my Asp yet again right after Horizons released and I belly flopped while boosting onto a planet surface, I thought she would pull up faster than that. And my mining Python last week to a bugged AI rapid fire plasma chucking DBS.

Woah, I’ve lost eleven ships in my time with Elite Dangerous….

Thats why its "Elite: dangerous"
you will become addicted and eventually fall asleep and murder some poor sad-sack trader.
Hell, I'm at work right now... Playing on the forums. Addicted.

Just say no*,people...

*no to being tired. Drink red bull, coffee, anything.

the first time I tried to land on a planet, I didn't realize the gravity gauge - it was like a 2g planet, and went in full throttle. Bounced off the planet like a basketball. Exploded about 200 meters off the ground. Lol

What annoys me most about it is the fact that I could have just logged off as my shields were re-charging. Then log back in when I was a little less under the influence.

Stupid mistake, but never mind....Im over it now.
