Awaiting for fun things to do.

All ive done thats productive is scoop and smuggle USS loot. And everyone with experience knows thats a horrible lifestyle to live in a Sidewinder.... hope you like the dollar menu and movies with no sound cause thats basically what it feels like.

Eranin apparently is unreachable at this time due to it being 80ly~ away with a couple jumps that are currently impossible in a Sidewinder. But from past experience Eranin and its surrounding systems has everything that i want. Conflict zones against the Federalists, many places for bounty hunting, and many missions associated with killing things.... thats all i care about. I may not make as much as the next space trucker who is in between being conscious and comatose (at least thats how i feel when trading/mining) but i definitely have alot more fun. But when i do obtain a large ship i can say, "Ive killed many.... so so many federalists to get this massive death machine, and now i need to kill more to feed it". But if i traded for it i would sound like: "i have an Anaconda *sigh*"

I have visited one ring with ONE extraction site within my "starter systems" (ive found other rings but they had no extractions?), and attempted to hunt bounties. But i was denied after my first kill because every Federal in the area went Red for some reason (i did not hit any of them with stray shots, all were behind me and 3500m+ away). So i had to flee the scene, i did however check my standing and i did not have a bounty... so i have no idea what the problem is unless we have added even more "immersion" by requiring bounty hunters to own a special module for no reason other than pure inconvenience.

Maybe im just being obstinate and FD has done this on purpose. Instead of killing giant rats in a basement, we are going to bore you to death until you get enough money to escape your beginners prison. Maybe i didnt get as engrossed in "space life" as i thought i would be (i have spent a respectable amount of time in Kerbal though compared to my other Steam games)... if the 16th doesnt arrive with a substantial increase in the "action packed fun department" i will bid farewell and wish the best for the rest of those who will still be playing and for FD.

PS: Just to be clear this is me assuming that since this is Gamma, majority of all the gameplay aspects of the final product are already available and in service (besides the story missions?) and the focus is being shifted towards balancing rewards, weapons, ships etc.

If you are waiting for fun things to do in Elite Dangerous you won't find fun. Fun is out there, explore and be surprised!

Seen one star youve seen them all. Same with planets and moons. Exploring is only an objective right now because i havent found a comparable cluster to the Eranin area. On the other hand, if i want to keep grinding USS's and start trading.... im gonna need to go buy some more coffee and take a really cold shower to wake up. lol

I have seen that Lugh thing people are doing. Not sure how far it is. Will chart it and see if its feasible. If the system is worth that much effort then it must have a bit of everything.... or that OP is just clever and is extorting the community so that system is destabilized allowing for wartime necessities to increase lol. Either/Or will be interesting to see what happens, iirc the devs still have to manually activate certain events and changes based on player activity until they gather enough data to truly allow the universe to be persistent.

I find it quite addictive! I'm always saying to myself "okay, just one more cargo run/mission and I'll call it a night." Then I end up playing for hours more. If you're bored, then it's just not a game for you. Might I suggest the newest Call of Duty title?

lol this guy. You couldve stopped at "its just not a game for you".

If the Eranin starter system we all had suited you, then make every effort to get back there.

When i started in my fed system it was a tough start. I considered wiping a few times, but stuck it out. Got a Hauler when i could, ran goods till i got a decent jump range on upgraded fsd and stripped ship to get out of there.

Made my way to Sol to check it out, then Eranin and Lave systems. I like Eranin because it is familiar and does have a bit of everything. Makes sense as FD kept us all there so long.

You can do it Commander. See you in the black.

EDIT to make the initial trading easier to get you going more quickly, maybe use a trading tool like thrudds on elitetrading

It's true that the system's stations seem to have a lot of good ships & modules for sale. I'd also recommend getting out of the sidewinder as soon as you can. It's a good ship but extremely limited in what you can fit on it!

I too stripped down a hauler to make the trip to Sol. It was a blast! I suppose it just takes a certain person to enjoy this kind of stuff. I like you're reference to "The Black." Was that a reference to The Fleet trilogy? Those were some of the most fun I had reading.

Elite has always been more of a celebral style game. It's what you imagine it to be.
I remember playing game such as Elite, Wing Commander and Dungeon master and not noticing just how basic it all was.
Had quite a shock when I tried the old version of Elite after 30 years, I remember it being much more...my imagination was obviously to blame!
These days we expect everything to come complete, rounded and explained we have, even given that we play games, lost our inner child and our unquestioning imagination

Oh trust me. I had that same feeling when i first started messing around with Elite when it first hit Premium Beta. But once i got used to the initial flare of using a HOTAS to pilot a space ship, i started to develop some expectations and hopes based on what ive read in the DDF.

Ive held my issues with the game back, until now. It wouldve been inappropriate 'then' because it wasnt a game.
But now, unless they have 3GB+ worth of content waiting for launch those expectations probably wont be met.

I just want to blaze my own trail. Not be pigeonholed into a playstyle ive already decided is boring.

See I did the same and its just not the same is it. Then again I played C.O.D last christmas on a wee one's console and thought it was the dullest thing ever. Once you kill and get shot in the same part of the map again and again it gets a bit stale. I was missing BF2

@OP - why do you feel as though you need to reach Eranin when you are just getting started? Most start areas have plenty to do, and there are plenty of missions or whatever that you can build up some cash and then decide what you want to do next.

I haven't read the Fleet books, so I can't say it is. I've seen the sign-off by a few other Commanders ad liked the sound of it, and unashamedly started using it. It feels quite appropriate - "See you in the great big black that we call space and this gigantic galaxy of ours" only a lot more concise! ;) Nice to know it has a history, and hey it's even tied to Star Wars (note the Avatar, heh) - what are the odds? May have to check the books out. Thanks for telling me.
