This was originally posted on the "Ask David" thread but did not get answered, so just thought I would post it again here to a broader audience and see what forumites think of this idea, and if it has any traction or not in the broader community.
What do people think (of the idea of having such an award, not necessarily the particulars of the three possible nominees mentioned)?
David, some members of the community have contributed endless hours to organizing (herding cats) various informal community groups or forum threads, that have done wonderful things to bring the Elite Dangerous community together both in and out of the game, and to bring it alive with additional content and activities. Off the top of my head, commanders such as Arcanonn (the Unknown Artefact thread and activities), Erimus (exploration and the Community Galactic Mapping initiative and thread) and Surly Badger (the Fuel Rats) have created some great game experiences for the entire community and added to the many experiences available within the game as well as on the forums and elsewhere. I am sure there are others as well, these are simply the three I have had the most experience with.
I was wondering if Frontier had ever considered some sort of community award for such initiatives, perhaps on an annual basis, that the players and devs could nominate such individuals for and then vote on? Perhaps something like a lifetime expansion pass as a prize might be suitable? Just throwing it out there for consideration and your thoughts. Without folks like these many of us would not have stayed engaged and involved with the game for as long as we have, and they have done wonders for boosting the morale of players, and the profile of the game as well, for no reward other than enjoyment, and little to no recognition other than from their peers.
