AX multi-cannon now available at rescue megaships

AX multi-cannons are now available at rescue ships. Are these good 'out of the box' or is engineering necessary to make them worthwhile?
Do I need special Mats to synthesize the AX ammunition?
 
You'd only need mats if you want to synthesize ammo in the field - nothing special needed if you restock at a station.

 
I did some quick tests yesterday and here:
Used 1 of each enhanced and one normal at a time.
The enhanced killed a scout in about 7 seconds.
The normal I had trouble getting a count as it misses a lot.

The damage on the stats is only slightly more but the big jump is the projectile speed.

Now bear in mind its only a few small tests in one evening during a period where every instance I went to was broken. Which was useful in that I just wanted to see how they worked against scouts and that's all there was.

I mean … I will definitely be buying some to replace my standard ones but, yeh, on paper they seems a little underwhelming.

But if the extra shot speed means they miss less … well, that in itself could be a nice little upgrade.

I think that may be the salient point of them.
