General / Off-Topic B5 reboot?

Oooo! Would like more B5, but don't know how I feel about a reboot. The original did such a good job of telling a great story. Very sad to see how many cast members had passed.

I half want a movie...and half don't. You couldn't make it just for the fans, so it would have to be incredibly shallow compared to the series. I don't want to say dumbed down, because that isn't the case. It's like the Marvel movies, that can't just make those for the fans, they have to assume the viewer has never picked up a comic book.

As for all that reboot stuff. JMS is trying to pull a Gene Roddenbury and create a "fan movement". Yes, Gene had a hand in that back in the 60's.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of JMS. He created a show I love, but he's been milking the fans of that show for years.

Katsulas (G'Kar) is dead. I doubt Babylon 5 will ever be the same without the immensely enjoyable conflicts between him and Londo Mollari. And the character of G'Kar is one of the most memorable ones in Sci Fi. It was such a joy to watch this character grow from a zealous hothead to a wise and humble person.

I don't know if a reboot could ever attain, much less surpass, this jewel of a series.

Totally disagree. The fans have been begging him for more B5 for years, and he has far more lucrative irons in the fire if making money was his main goal.

Until a few years ago, I'd have hated the idea of a reboot. But now, I think the time feels right.

Have a look at the price of those B5 script books and coffee table books he was selling.

B5 is a great show, not fired about this reboot buisiness though.
Give me new stories and plots intead pls, the big twists are out already they cant be reused and have as much suspense as it had the first time.

I´d rather have JMS make a deal with HBO and get some quality co-writers and have him as showrunner.

Totally this.

If they want to touch B5, I'd love to see the CGI modernized.

The spin-off series, Crusade needs a reboot though, TNT butchered it bad back then (HBO & quality co-writers would suit this well).

Two problems. So much of the back story and future story of the B5 universe is known, the scope for new stories is very limited - especially ones that will have any meaning to a wider audience. And JMS owns the movie rights, but Warner Brothers retain the TV rights. That's why he's making a film and not aTV series.
