Back after 1 year??? - Any tipps for having fun tonight?

Hi all,

I didn't play for a year or even longer. Even had to look how to post a message here.

I'm thinking about fireing up my Oculus tonight and have a little trip in the Elite universe. A looot of things happened since I played for the last time.

Any recommendations to make this a great night? Did PvP somehow make it through? I still do not even have a fully pimped up ship.. What was this never ending grind called to pimp your ship? Even forgot that. ;-)

So, I think flying my ships tonight will be fun but I might need some assistance to get it going. I dropped before all this updates took place like roughly 1 year ago or whenever it was.

I like PvP by the way.

Cheers

I see you're a python fan. Do boom deliveries of gold, silver, indium and insulating membrane. If you can't find a system you like offering these, go to daedalus in sol, you can always get a couple there. Nice money and you get challenging interdictions from engineered anacondas for good bounties and mission cash bonuses.

If you're a combat pilot, try a wing assassination, or any number of high threat USS types. I think you'll find a few improvements.

Cool so far. What's going on with all that alien stuff and Guardians etc. Is there anything more behind (playable) or is it just cosmetics like, go to A, see the nice base, go to B and solve some riddles...

Guardian FSD booster is coolest thing from their tech in my opinion. Pretty easy to get just some time sink involved, just google up Elite Guardian FSD Booster walk through if you want help. Can give up to 10.5ly boost to jumps.

You can go fight the aliens some where I never bothered, too much yawn for me with the whole story.

It's very playable, you can go kick thargoid behind with that stuff, which is challenging and interesting. The problem with that is that you have to grind a lot for the stuff, which is fine, but then you need different engineering than you would for anti human activities, and all the anti xeno stuff is weak against human targets too, so what has put me off is having to have a permanent ship dedicated to this, while they are still releasing new stuff to make the aliens easier to kill each month. I don't know if I should build now (while I have other ships I'd prefer to build, for human concerns), or wait until the full set of equipment is available and choose the best meta ship based on that? I don't know which way to jump and while I'm like that I don't feel like grinding, cos I've still got plenty of bubble-related goals to keep me going.

There are currently two Thargoid raiding parties hopping about the bubble. Each week they attack a system. If enough Thargoid ships are destroyed in that system that week, they're driven off. Otherwise, they damage a station in the system, which is on fire for a week and then has reduced services indefinitely until it's repaired, which requires hauling various cargo to it. At the moment the long-term outcome has been a stalemate: the Thargoids are usually stopped, but they get through often enough that the few people actively repairing the stations are only able to keep things from getting worse overall.

It's not yet clear why the Thargoids are picking the targets they do - there are patterns, but not an obvious strategy.

The Guardian stuff gets you materials which can be traded in to give access to various useful outfitting - unlike engineering, it's an unlock fee, not a per-module one - including some strong anti-Thargoid weapons.

The grind and the non existing "intellingent" gameplay linked to a storyline was why I quit. It#s like therapy. You have to digg yourself into a useless taks for hours or day/weeks to get something. That's not gameplay to me.
So, same ol... same ol ... Maybe I just join a CG and hack some ships. Which is also repetitive but fun repetitive. PvP was great before the 1st bigger update. It was about skill. Theny The Engineers came and the game turned into an endless grind loop. Terrible game implementation.

Maybe I play 'Inside' a 2D side scroller in my Oculus as a cinematic experience tonight. I think I get 10 x more fun out of that. Clever gameplay, great level design, awesome gfx and atmosphere.

Well, Thanks for all the advice, dudes. I might give it a try anyway.

I ground for access to the engineers, but that's the only grind I've ever done, which is why I'm poor. lol. I just play my way and never had any big complaints. My biggest gripe right now is mission variety. I'm just back from a shorter break myself. THe last patch was good, it introduced depot mechanics for delivery missions which means you can do them in smaller ships now in batches. There are some quite interesting USS encounters, threat 6 and higher can occasionally be challenging. Mission related and other significant NPCs now have basic engineering too. It's worth checking it out, even if you might decide it hasn't improved enough. In hte next patch there will be a rework of exploring and the way USS are generated, which will make gathering for engineering less of a pain. Try again at christmas if you aren't satisfied today. :)

I'll definitely take a ride tonight. The entire atmo in the Oculust was always awsome.
