Back after a break, first 10 minutes, PvP intercept! A Mamba no less!

Yo my fellow Commanders, so after playing X4 since release (tell you what, good game thats gonna be great, I mean really great as they roll out 2.0 and more ahead) I thought, few glasses of vino tinto, why not log in and recover my python back to SD.

As ever, I'm in open for the thrillz cos thats how i flow....now which button to go up, thrusters are... oh yeah thrustmaster thingy, which button is jump/hyper/boost....yeah, oh yeah, ohhh shi... got it, we have control, weaps...oh "U" (for silly thing...some might remember, Sid RIP).

So after correcting direction / speed / avoidance I undock and jump into SD, even remembering to throttle down as I jump. 1 minute in, and bham....interdicted by a player, in a Mamba. Ok game on, not fought one before, don't own one either, Python to max def mode, select reverski and submit to the whims of PvP, nice to be back :)

So we turn and burn, surprisingly the Python (engineered to the hilt and more) can stick in the turnin an burnin fight, shields are 2000+ so no worries in this tradering spec. I got multi-cannons and missiles, packhounds and lots of them, i mean lots. We burn shoot, turn and repeat though i am sliding and gliding too with a bit of nifty throttle control thrown in. Anyways, I do the Mambas shields eventually, i drop to....2.5 rings, prismatics eh? Eventually he does a brave Sir Robin, I hyperjump and reach momma's bussom in tout quick time.

Now, the question is, and I really don't know, do players rate the Mamba higher, or lower, than the FdL?

Or is the Python better than both? :)

FDL is still the king of PvP.. the Mamba was a valiant attempt at a rival, but it's not agile enough and it's weapon placement is too spread out to be a real contender.

I love shooting pythons. Giant triangle is fun to blow up. To answer your question, the FDL is vastly superior to the Mamba. Mamba actually turns worse than the Python.

Interesting about turn rate, that was the impression I had as we fought, that the Mamba was a flying brick. Thanks to all for the feedback.

I don't see how people are dropping shields with packhounds; were they modified for thermal damage? Explosive not noted for killing shields after all, nor is kinetic much better ( although I understand many go for near equal shield resist on some builds).

Edit; are you sure it wasn't some poor 'explorer mamba'?[big grin]

Ya, this is a strange case. The mamba flown correctly should have easily beaten a prismatic python. Grats Cmdr, good win!

All hail packhounds!

Good win CMDR.

You successfully fought off a large (yes, LARGE) ship!
I flew it in beta and hated it. (And not because it melted constantly)
Nice cockpit. But hated the rest.

Krait Phantom is very nice though.

Hi Wolf, no, the Packhounds are not thermally modded (They are modded but....not telling), however I do use incendiary modded large MC's. Maybe the Mamba shield set up wasn't optimal, he did use a couple of SCB's. If he was a poor explorer Mamba he picked on the wrong Python :)

Aashen, yes I agree, the python was in a tradering fit, no SCB but I did have 6A modded Prissys. I was going to hi wake after the first jousting pass and follow the "Path of Rinzler" but noticing the damage to his shields and the slow turn I thought what the heck, lets do it.

Cosmic, I've not tried the Phantom yet just the standard Krait, which I do like to fly. Might give it a look, thanks.
