Here is my story:
A few months ago I bought my first Python and flew it with a certain swagger. It took me roughly 4-5 months to raise the cash to buy it and I flew it with an attitude. I would attack everything and anything and with her and win, including 'Condas.
One day I was at a Haz Res site and I took on an Anaconda and was doing just fine taking it down. Duck, weave, boost, fire... duck, weave, boost, fire... everything was going just fine and I was already spending the bounty in my head because I always spent all my credits on upgrades... all of my credits, like they were burning a hole in my flight suit. So as I was saying, I was taking down the 'Conda doing a galactic tango and enjoying the thoughts of what I was going to spend the bounty on... then it happened.
The 'Conda made a move I hadn't expected. She wasn't where I thought she would be when I came out of my boost, maybe she knew she was as good as dead since her shields were down and her hull was at 28%. My Python had 60% shields and it's hull had no damage so I wasn't sweating yet, but as I came out of my boost and finished my turn the Anaconda and I were face to face... both staring right at each other. Then, out of nowhere I hear a sound I have never heard before. It sounded like two swords clanging VERY loud, I never saw a flash but my shields fell to 0% and my hull was 40%, canopy cracked into shards. One single shot and I was just about dead. The 2 seconds of disbelief and shock that followed cost me dearly. In those two seconds the 'Conda went full Kamikaze and boosted right at me. I started to turn and hit my boosters in a panic and just barely clipped the rear end of the Anaconda.
There was silence, my ship rolled slightly and I couldn't control it. The only thing I could hear was "Eject! Eject!". With no credits saved and my insurance about 200k short of a rebuy... I had lost everything and was forced to leave station in a pathetic little Sidewinder to start a journey down that long and lonely rebuild/restart path. That was two months ago.
Last night I entered a shipyard, a little giddy with excitement, like a kid in a toy store. Put all my credits on the counter and bought a new ship, as much as I loved the Asp X I've lived in the past 2 months, it was time to put her in storage and get a new bird. When I clicked purchase and it asked me if I was sure and I clicked yes, it was like the past 2 months flashed before my eye's. All the hard work, all the hours and all the white knuckle escapes played out in order up to this point in time. When my new Python was displayed in the out fittng screen it felt like... it felt like re-buying that one car you had in High School that you LOVED but when it broke you couldn't afford the parts to fix it so you had to let it go. But now you do have the cash and you just rebought it. When you look through that canopy again and it feels so familiar, and you look around the cockpit, and hear the way it sounds. It's awesome! I got her back and without even outfitting her I launched just so I could take her for a "spin around the block". It's been too long.
Fixed her up real nice after that spin. Made her even better than the first one I owned. This time I was able to give her some new paint!
